The training of ethnic minority clinical-community psychologists: The case of Asian-Americans
A special clinical-community psychology program for Asian-Americans is described. Four separate papers discuss the background of the training center and the philosophical and practical rationales as well as products of the training program. This discussion of the training program is designed to provide some insight into the issue of training clinical-community psychology students interested in working with multi-ethnic populations.
The utilization of cultural variables in the training of clinical-community psychologists
Therapeutic understanding and skills cannot be defined independently of cultural considerations. The utilization of three important processes (i.e., the acquisition of knowledge of cultures, experiences with diverse cultural groups, and ability to utilize innovative and culturally appropriate intervention strategies) in the training of clinical-community psychologists is discussed.
