Neighbor's Knowledge and Reaction to Suspected Child Abuse in an Urban Setting
Neighbors are seen as an important source of child abuse prevention and reporting. This article reports the result of a random telephone survey of a large mid-western city (n = 513) which examined the extent to which respondents suspected their neighbors of physical child abuse. Data was also collected on how respondents learned of such physical abuse, what their response to it was, and whether they noticed a difference in the frequency of the ab…
A Statewide Study of Neighbors' Knowledge of and Reactions to Physical Child Abuse
Neighbors are believed to have an important influence on child abuse prevention and intervention. Variables related to parenting (having a minor child, age, employment status, receiving AFDC benefits) wer…

The estimated percentage of life stress attributable to neighbor annoyances was only 8.5%. However, for a small minority (6%), annoyance with nei…

Child custody mediation has not been studied from a social skills perspective. One hundred and twenty-four California family court mediators rated, through a mailed questionnaire, the frequency of occurrence and helpfulness in reaching an agreement of 26 problem-solving and negotiation skills seen in the couples they work with. The mediators believed that the couples entering court-ordered mediation are both firm and emotional in their positions …
