  • Self-Report Inventories as Predictors of Men's Heterosocial Skill

    Open Access•Michael E Faulstich, Bernard J Jensen et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1985

Little research has concerned criterion-related validity of heterosocial self-report inventories. 82 undergraduate men responded to the Survey of Heterosocial Interactions, Situation Questionnaire, and Dating and Assertion Questionnaire and also had heterosocial skillfulness rated during an analog interaction. Scores on the interaction survey correlated the highest ( r = .43) with ratings of global skill, and a four-variable regression model acco…

  • Effects upon Social Perceptions of the Insanity Plea

    Open Access•Michael E Faulstich•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1984

Interest and debate have increased over the “not guilty by reason of insanity” (NGRI) plea. However, little systematic research regarding societal reactions to this plea is available. Perceptions of the plea were analyzed by having 256 respondents read specially prepared newspaper stories that described the shooting of an individual. The female assailant compared to the male counterpart was: liked more, considered less likely to shoot someone aga…

  • Age-Group Classification of Male Alcoholics as a Function of MMPI Experimental Scales

    Open Access•Michael P Carey, Michael E Faulstich et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1984

91 male alcoholics were assigned to one of four groups according to chronological age. Discriminant analysis using 15 experimental scales as variables indicated that the percentage of correctly classified alcoholics was approximately equivalent with the results of an earlier study by Faulstich, et al. employing the 10 clinical and three validity scales as predictors. These findings are discussed in reference to directions for further research

    Open Access•Lawrence G Calhoun, James W Selby et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Community Psychology•1982•References: 9

The present study investigated the responses of 148 adult citizens of a city in the southeastern United States to specially prepared newspaper accounts of a child's death. Results indicated that when the child's death was suicidal parents were viewed in a more negative way than when the child's death was a result of illness. In addition, the presence of environmental pressures which reduced potentially negative perceptions of parents when the chi…
