Evidence consistent with shared lexical orthographic systems for reading and writing
Semantic skills and input frequency influence classifier learning among Mandarin-speaking children
This study aimed to explore how classifier-based semantic skills and frequency of classifier input affect the learning of Mandarin shape classifiers among Mandarin-speaking children. A novel classifier learning task was developed, which allowed the examination of the influences of semantic skills and input frequency within the same task. Two novel classifiers were invented, each encoding distinct shape features not present in any real Mandarin cl…
Comprehension of focus in Mandarin-speaking children with autism spectrum disorders
Pragmatic language impairments are symptomatic of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Comprehension of focus is a significant part of pragmatic ability and is related directly to capturing the key information of utterances. In this study, we investigated the comprehension of focus in children with ASD, specifically regarding focus realized by canonical word order and contextual cues, which are naturally acquired by preschool typically d…
Comprehension of Spatial Demonstratives in 4- to 6-Year-Old Chinese-Speaking Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder
Deficits in orthographic-phonological automatic integration for chinese adults with reading fluency difficulty
Focus Comprehension in Mandarin-Speaking Children Aged 6 to 8
This study investigated how Mandarin-speaking children with cochlear implants (CIs) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) comprehend focus using various cues. Participants included 21 CI children, 21 ASD children, 21 age- and gender-matched typically developing (TD) children aged 6 to 8, and 30 hearing adults. In a sentence-picture verification task, participants listened to simple subject–verb–object sentences paired with pictures, in which focus w…

The role of microbiota in autism spectrum disorder
The United States dominants the research in this field, which focuses on the alterations of gut microbiota composition and its metabolites, among which the roles of the genus Clostridium and metabolites of short-chain fatty acids, especially propionic acid, are priorities. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is a promising complementary therapy. In general, research in this area is sparse, but it still has great research prospects
Transitional probabilities and expectation for word length impact verbal statistical learning

汉语普通话声调感知的老年化效应
The accurate perception of lexical tones in Mandarin Chinese is an important foundation for successfully understanding spoken Chinese. Previous behavioral studies have shown that the ability to perceive lexical tones in Mandarin declines in elderly individuals. In addition to other research areas related to language and aging, the central issue in phonetic perception during aging concerns whether perceptual changes related to aging are area-speci…
岁普通话儿童前注意阶段的声调感知机制
Lexical tones are a key component of tonal language. The accurate perception of different Mandarin lexical tones is essential for Mandarin-speaking children to process spoken Chinese. Previous studies based on the speech perception model of nontonal language proposed perceptual narrowing theory, while later studies indicated that the perception of lexical tones might be more complicated. Event-related potentials (ERPs) are an effective tool that …
