Women and Drugs: The Heroin Abuser and the Prescription Drug Abuser
The literature on female drug use/abuse was reviewed and descriptions of the female heroin abuser and the female prescription drug abuser were derived. The female heroin abuser has been characterized as a lower socioeconomic status woman with low self-esteem, the product of a disrupted, unstable childhood. The relative impact of family and social involvement on chicano mental health
In a household survey, Chicanos attributed significantly more importance to family relationships than did other ethnic groups. For Chicanos, both family satisfaction and social (other than family) satisfaction correlated highly with psychological well-being. Using multiple regression analysis to control for age and income, it was found that for Chicanos family satisfaction was more predictive of overall well-being and positive affect than was soc…
The effects of zoo environments on public attitudes toward endangered wildlife
Slides of animals in natural, semi‐natural, and zoo settings were rated by college students on a number of semantic differential scales. Results indicate that the setting in which an animal is exhibited determines to a great extent the public's attitude toward the animal. Zoo animals are seen as significantly less dignified, confined, unhappy, unnatural, tame, dependent, etc. A factor analysis of the three environments provides further evidence t…
