A scalable model for child road safety in low- and middle-income countries
Introduction Road traffic injuries are a leading cause of child mortality in Vietnam, where rapid motorization and the absence of standardized safe school zones create high-risk environments for students. This paper evaluates the “Slow Zones, Safe Zones” (SZSZ) project, a comprehensive, multi-year intervention in Pleiku City designed to reduce road crash injuries and fatalities by making school zones safer. Methods The project employed a phased d…
Nutritional Practices Among Ethnic Minority High School Students in Mountainous Regions, Vietnam
Our study shows a comprehensive picture of malnutrition among children in ethnic minority areas. Essential nutritional intervention programs, projects, and models are a top priority to reduce the disease burden for children's bright future and to enhance socio-economic development in the mountainous regions of Vietnam
Coming together for something good
Introduction Dissemination and Implementation (D&I) science is growing among Indigenous communities. Indigenous communities are adapting and implementing evidence-based treatments for substance use disorders (SUD) to fit the needs of their communities. D&I science offers frameworks, models, and theories to increase implementation success, but research is needed to center Indigenous knowledge, enhancing D&I so that it is more applicable within Ind…
Effective alcohol policies and lifetime abstinence
Centering culture in the treatment of opioid use disorder with American Indian and Alaska Native Communities
American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities are disproportionally impacted by the opioid overdose epidemic. There remains a dearth of research evaluating methods for effectively implementing treatments for opioid use disorder (OUD) within these communities. We describe proceedings from a 2‐day Collaborative Board (CB) meeting tasked with developing an implementation intervention for AI/AN clinical programs to improve the delivery of medicat…
Benchmarking alcohol policy based on stringency and impact
This study developed a measurement tool to assess stringency and ‘on-the-ground’ impact of four key alcohol policy domains to create an alcohol policy index suitable for benchmarking alcohol policy and assessing change over time in middle- and high-income countries. It involved a collaboration between researchers in 12 diverse countries: New Zealand; Australia; England; Scotland; Netherlands; Vietnam; Thailand; South Africa; Turkey; Chile; Saint …
Exploring barriers to, and enablers of, evidence-informed hip fracture care in five low- middle-income countries
Globally, populations are ageing and the estimated number of hip fractures will increase from 1.7 million in 1990 to more than 6 million in 2050. The greatest increase in hip fractures is predicted in Low- and Middle–Income Countries (LMICs), largely in the Asia-Pacific region where direct costs are expected to exceed $US15 billion by 2050. The aims of this qualitative study are to identify barriers to, and enablers of, evidence–informed hip frac…
Harmful drinking occurs in private homes in some high‐ and middle‐income alcohol markets
Health-related quality of life and recovery patterns among hospitalised injury patients in Vietnam
