    Open Access•Paula A Michaels, Stephanie Panichelli-Batalla•ARTICLE•History Australia•2024

Locked in a struggle with the United States after its 1959 revolution, Cuba was a natural Soviet ally in the Cold War. The 1960s saw dozens of public health officials, medical instructors, and clinicians arrive on the island to help improve the health and wellbeing of Cuban workers and peasants. This article plumbs Russian archives and published Cuban and Soviet medi…

At the heart of the project is the notion of sustainability, and how to achieve well-being even in the most challenging conditions, isolated economies and sanction-laden realities. This is done by tracing both countries’ engagement and development in the fields of health and education. We suggest that political engagement with t…

  • Humorous sublimation of a dying Cuban writer in Reinaldo Arenas’ The Color of Summer

    Christophe Panichelli, Stephanie Panichelli-Batalla•ARTICLE•Humor - International Journal of…•2018•References: 5

How does a human being deal with suffering? How can we emotionally cope with the vicissitudes of life, especially in times where they suddenly multiply themselves? In this study, we present an innovative interdisciplinary study on the use of coping mechanisms by career writers dealing with difficult life events. We focus in particular on the use of humor and sublimation, two creative mental mechanisms that contribute to the lowering of anxiety wh…
