Racial Disparities in Poverty Status among Families of Individuals with Spinal Cord Injury
Background: Poverty rates among individuals with disabilities are much higher than for the general U.S. population. However, little is known about the likelihood of poverty among families of those with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). Objectives: Examine the association of pre‐injury and post‐injury education with the likelihood of familial poverty by race/ethnicity for 1,405 adults between the ages of 18 and 64 who had a traumatic spinal cord injury at…

The Determinants of Escape Clause Petitions
Based on the decision to file an escape clause petition by a firm, a Poisson regression model of the macroeconomic determinants of the total number of these petitions yearly is developed and estimated. The Poisson specification conforms to the fact that the number of escape clause petitions is a non-negative integer with a skewed probability distribution. In addition, the number of potential petitioners is controlled for in the specification. The…

Reduced-Form Trinomial Probit
This article develops the direct trivariate extension of the binary probit model. Similar to the binary probit specification, the trivariate model involves an admissible reduction of the nonidentified structural parameters. The reduced-form model is distinguished from other trinomial specifications in that it allows for nonzero covariances among the utility variates that characterize individuals' valuations of the choice alternatives. The indepen…
