  • Students’ climate change emotions, attitudes, and self-efficacy in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary

Open Access•Jan Činčera, Miloslav Kolenatý et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Education Research•2026

Climate-related emotions, attitudes, and self-efficacy are increasingly recognized as interlinked drivers of adolescents’ pro-environmental behavior, yet evidence on their joint role across cultural contexts remains limited. This study explores the interplay between climate-related emotions, attitudes, and pro-environmental behaviors among secondary school students from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary. It is based on previous studies fo…

  • Pathways from Education for Sustainable Development to pro-environmental behaviour

Open Access•Dániel Sziva, Iván Zsolt Berze et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Education Research•2026

This cross-national study examines the relationship between secondary school students’ perceived experiences of education for sustainable development, their action competence, and pro-environmental behaviour in Hungary, Czechia, and Slovakia. Representative national samples (N = 6477) were analysed using saturated structural equation modelling to test direct and indirect pathways from education for sustainable development to pro-environmental beh…

  • “Light and darkness”

    Open Access•Attila Varga•ARTICLE•Swedish Journal of Romanian Studies•2026

The idea for this research project, which is dedicated to the Orthodox theologian Puiu Ioan Hojda and his reflections on racism in the context of Christian theology, emerged after I had finished working on the archival guide for the Romanian Orthodox Theological Institute/Academy in Cluj. During that time, while consulting fundamental documents concerning the aforementioned prestigious institution in the Archive of the Romanian Orthodox Archdioce…

  • Abafi Aigner Lajos and the secret societies in Banat in the second half of the 18th century

    Open Access•Attila Varga•ARTICLE•Swedish Journal of Romanian Studies•2026

This study analyses the contributions of Abafi Aigner Lajos, one of the most significant figures in Central European Masonic historiography, to our understanding of Masonic lodges and secret societies in the Banat region during the second half of the 18th century. Although Abafi is internationally recognised, he remains relatively unknown in Romanian historiography, primarily due to the inaccessibility of his seminal works, which are written in H…

  • Measuring research interest similarity with transition probabilities

Open Access•Attila Varga, Sadamori Kojaku et al.•ARTICLE•Quantitative Science Studies•2025

We introduce a family of paper and author similarity measures based on the concept that papers are more similar if they are more likely to be retrieved during a literature search following backward and forward citations. As this browsing process resembles a walk in a citation network, we operationalize the concept using the transition probability (TP) of random walkers. The proposed measures are continuous and symmetric, and can be implemented on…

  • Between Dynastic Loyalty and the Nationalism of the “People of the Masters”

    Open Access•Attila Varga, Anna Vargas•ARTICLE•Transylvanian Review•2024

This study presents a very important and sensitive part of the life and activity of the Romanian national hero Avram Iancu, after the end of the Revolution of 1848–1849. Given their achievements during the revolutionary battles, he and his comrades-in-arms should have been decorated and rewarded accordingly. Despite the testimonies and recommendations of important personalities of his time, Avram Iancu did not receive the recognition and the dist…

  • Age differences and profiles in pro-environmental behavior and eco-emotions

Open Access•Csilla Ágoston, Bernadett Balázs et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2024

Previous research suggests that age-related differences in pro-environmental behavior (PEB) and the emotional reactions to climate change could originate from generational as well as aging effects and can be influenced by the opportunities and constraints of life circumstances and resources. The current research aimed to better understand age differences through examining the eco-emotions and PEBs of different age groups, and identifying latent g…

  • Toward Stronger Integration of Education for Sustainable Development Into the Carpathian Convention Activities

Open Access•Tamara Mitrofanenko, Anna Vargas et al.•ARTICLE•Mountain Research and Development•2020

The Carpathian Convention is a multilateral environmental agreement focused on nature conservation and sustainable development of the Carpathian Mountain region; its articles cover various thematic and cross-sectional areas. Article 13 of the convention outlines provisions for awareness raising, education, and public participation and is central to integrating education for sustainable development (ESD) into the convention documents and activitie…

  • Metropolitan Edison and cosmopolitan Pasteur? Agglomeration and interregional research network effects on European R&D productivity

Anna Vargas, Attila Varga et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Economic Geography•2012•Cited by: 2•References: 17

This article examines empirically the relative influence of static and dynamic agglomeration effects on the one hand and research networking [measured by Framework Programme (FP) participation] on the other on regional R&D productivity in the European Union. We found that agglomeration is an important predictor of R&D productivity in the case of market-oriented (Edison-type) research while interregional scientific networking is an important deter…

  • Spatial knowledge spillovers and university research

Open Access•Manfréd M Fischer, Anna Vargas et al.•ARTICLE•The Annals of Regional Science•2003

This paper provides some evidence on the importance of geographically mediated knowledge spillovers from university research activities to regional knowledge production in high-technology industries in Austria. Spillovers occur because knowledge created by universities has some of the characteristics of public goods, and creates value for firms and other organisations. The paper lies in the research tradition that finds thinking in terms of a pro…

  • Patents and innovation counts as measures of regional production of new knowledge

    Open Access•Zoltan J Acs, Luc Anselin et al.•ARTICLE•Research Policy•2002

  • Local Academic Knowledge Transfers and the Concentration of Economic Activity

Open Access•Anna Vargas, Attila Varga•ARTICLE•Journal of Regional Science•2000

In this paper I examine agglomeration effects on the intensity of local knowledge transfers from universities to high technology innovations within the modified Griliches‐Jaffe knowledge production function framework. Estimations are carried out at the level of U.S. metropolitan areas. Concentration of high technology employment turns out to be the most important factor promoting local academic knowledge transfers. I find that a “critical mass” o…

  • Using the OMNeT++ discrete event simulation system in education

    Open Access•Attila Varga•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Education•1999

The intent of this paper is to contribute to the teaching of computer networks, parallel and distributed systems and discrete event simulation by presenting a simulation system that is ideally suited for educational use. OMNeT++ is a C++-based discrete event simulator which uses the process-interaction approach. An OMNeT++ model consists of modules communicating by message passing. Modules can be arbitrarily nested. Model topology is specified by…
