Hydrogeology of Cibola County, New Mexico
The hydrogeology of Cibola County, New Mexico, was evaluated to determine the occurrence, availability, and quality of ground-water resources. Rocks of Precambrian through Quaternary age are present in Cibola County. Most rocks are sedimentary in origin except for Precambrian igneous and metamorphic rocks exposed in the Zuni Uplift and Tertiary and Quaternary basalts in northern and central parts of the county. The most productive aquifers in the…
Routine communication in sexually transmitted disease clinics
Sixty STD patients were followed during the course of their clinic visit which averaged 2.75 professional contacts. Patient recall of the information they were given averaged about 43 percent. Patients not seen b…

Study of disease associations from linked records
Comparisons are made between the principal diagnosis on discharge from hospital in successive periods of inpatient care for persons in the Oxford Record Linkage Study area admitted over a period of years. The observed numbers of pairs of diagnoses are compared with expected numbers computed to take account of the discharge rates in the population by age and sex and the number of man years of exposure. Three topics have been selected to display so…
Epidemiology and family characteristics of severely-abused children
Severe child abuse in north-east Wiltshire was studied retrospectively during the period 1965-71, and prospectively for 18 months from January 1972, after a period of consultative activity with those actively involved to increase awareness of the phenomenon. Severe abuse was strictly defined. A rate of 1 per thousand children under four years old was obtained, together with a death rate of 0-1 per thousand. The families of the retrospective serie…
Estimation of the outcome of a standing mental hospital population
A Psychiatric Case Register in North-East Scotland
Much psychiatric morbidity is chronic and extends over large segments of the individual's life span. A major impediment to obtaining accurate and complete knowledge of the natural history of mental disorder has been the difficulty in obtaining adequate data. The case register method is potentially useful in filling this need. The essential theoretical features of the case register which distinguish it from other techniques are: (1) Total populati…
