  • Intimate partner violence during Covid-19 lockdown in Norway

Open Access•Merete Berg Nesset, Camilla Buch Gudde et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

Intimate partner violence increased dramatically during the COVID-19 lockdown. A range of options for victims to escape from their perpetrators, particularly during times of crisis, should be developed in line with good practice, and with a special focus on the most vulnerable victims

  • The Predictive Properties of Violence Risk Instruments May Increase by Adding Items Assessing Sleep

Open Access•Knut Langsrud, Arne Vaaler et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2019

Background: The psychometric instruments developed for short-term prediction of violence in psychiatric inpatients do not include variables assessing sleep. Disturbances in sleep may precede aggression in this setting. We investigated whether adding information on sleep improved the predictive properties of the Brøset Violence Checklist (BVC). Methods: The study population consists of all patients admitted to a psychiatric intensive care unit (PI…

  • Evaluation of the Drug Use Disorders Identification Test (Dudit) in Criminal Justice and Detoxification Settings and in a Swedish Population Sample

Open Access•Anne H Berman, Hans Bergman et al.•ARTICLE•European Addiction Research•2005

Psychometric properties of the 11-item self-report Drug Use Disorders Identification Test (DUDIT) were evaluated in a sample of heavy drug users from prison, probation, and inpatient detoxification settings, and in a general Swedish population sample. In the drug user sample, the DUDIT predicted drug dependence with a sensitivity of 90% for both DSM-4 and ICD-10 and a respective specificity of 78 and 88%. Reliability according to Cronbach’s α coe…

  • Effects of a High-Dose, Fast Tapering Buprenorphine Detoxification Program on Symptom Relief and Treatment Retention

    Tom Palmstierna•ARTICLE•Journal of Psychoactive Drugs•2004

A large number of patients with heroin dependency fail to enter a treatment program because of dropping out during or immediately after detoxification. This article presents an open study of symptom relief of 10 patients withdrawing from heroin with a high-dose rapid tapering buprenorphine detoxification protocol. It also presents a pseudo-experimental comparison between 208 patients treated with a clonidine/dextropropoxiphene detoxification prot…

  • The staff observation aggression scale-revised (Soas-R)

    Open Access•Henk Nijman, Henk L I Nijman et al.•ARTICLE•Aggressive Behavior•1999•References: 18

Proper assessment of aggressive behavior is essential for an understanding of its causes. In 1987, Palmstierna and Wistedt [Acta Psychiatr Scand 76:657-663] introduced the Staff Observation Aggression Scale (SOAS), an instrument for monitoring the frequency, nature, and severity of aggressive incidents. In the present study, the validity of the SOAS severity scoring system was examined, and the severity scores were refined. The SOAS was used to r…
