The effect of perceptions of exploration and exploitation work activities on dynamic organizational knowledge networks
We examine how perceptions of work activities regarding exploration (i.e., pursuit of knowledge for innovation) and exploitation (i.e., pursuit of knowledge for maximizing the benefits of existing resources) affects how individuals change their knowledge networks. We theorize how network choices regarding dynamic micro-network mechanisms of tie change and stability, reciprocity, and closure are influenced by perceptions of exploration and exploit…
If you do not know who knows what
In this study we develop a model to explain the dynamics of advice seeking after an acquisition. We build on a theory of advice seeking that draws from prospect theory and expectancy theory. We theorize that immediately after an acquisition there is uncertainty about who knows what, but over time individuals become more aware of the expertise within the organization and they change their advice networks based upon this increased awareness. Our mo…

Sport, Physical Education, and Islam
This qualitative study of a British Islamic independent school explores the construction of religious masculinities within the lives of a cohort of Muslim adolescent males. An ethnographic analysis is presented whereby boys’ physical education is located as a strategic site for the development of Muslim masculine identities. Adopting a symbolic interactionist perspective, the article discusses the representation of pupil masculinities within the …

An instructional laboratory to support microprogramming
A microprogramming laboratory that supports a one-quarter computer architecture course is described. This laboratory includes an inexpensive 32-bit microprogrammable VLSI computer board with writable control store, an 8 MFLOP floating-point processor, advanced microcode debugging support, and a relocatable macro meta assembler. The laboratory described was developed and taught at Georgia Institute of Technology in the School of Electrical Enginee…
Computer algorithms for plagiarism detection
A survey of computer algorithms used for the detection of student plagiarism is presented. A summary of several algorithms is provided. Common features of the different plagiarism detection algorithms are described. Ethical and administrative issues involving detected plagiarism are discussed. >
A new undergraduate computer arithmetic software laboratory
An undergraduate computer engineering laboratory that supports a one-quarter computer arithmetic course is described. This course is required for the computer engineering degree and is taken as a technical option by many students in electrical engineering and computer science. The features of this state-of-the-art laboratory include a local area network of computers, remote access via the campus network, electronic mail, online documentation, and…
An updated PC-based assembly language programming laboratory
An undergraduate computer engineering laboratory that supports a one-quarter, PC (personal computer)-based assembly language programming course is described. The course sequence is required for the computer engineering and is taken as a technical elective by many students in electrical engineering. The novel features of this state-of-the-art laboratory include a symbolic debugger with support for Assembly and high-level languages, a local area ne…
