The effects of artificial intelligence-based interactive scaffolding on secondary students’ speaking performance, goal setting, self-evaluation, and motivation in informal digital learning of English
Artificial intelligence-based interactive scaffolding (AIIS), which is the interactive process that learners communicate with AI to learn by implementing learning activities with AI’s gradual assistance, has recently been reported to provide potential benefits to teachers and learners in informal digital learning of English (IDLE). While much previous research has focused on the combined effects of AIIS in facilitating interactions with teachers,…
“What is my organization doing for me?” Organizational supportive measures in gearing job performance: Thriving at work amid COV-19
Unveiling the job characteristics-creativity rapport through the bridge of thriving: A self-determination perspective from the Chinese hospitality sector
Grounding on self-determination theory, this study proposes that job characteristics (task variety and skill variety) enhance employees’ creativity through thriving at work. It also aims to examine the boundary condition of managerial coaching for the link between job characteristics and thriving. A time-lagged dyadic data collected from 313 frontline hospitality individuals’ analyses performed through AMOS and PROCESS macro show that job charact…
The impacts of city-specific factors on social integration of Chinese migrant workers: A study using multilevel modeling
Rural migrants in China often face obstacles that prevent them from integrating economically and socially into their host cities. We explore the effects of host city–specific factors on the social integration of migrant workers in this article. To do this, we use a survey data set that includes a sample of migrants in nine cities in eastern and central China. We estimate a multilevel linear model (MLM), taking into account both individual and cit…
Intercity migration in China: A recurrent-event duration analysis of repeat migration
This paper focuses on repeat migration of migrant workers in China. We explore repeat migration from the perspective of the duration of each migration stage in one’s migration history. The main methodology is a recurrent-event Cox proportional hazard (PH) duration model that examines the effects of both time-independent and time-dependent variables on the potential for repeat migration. We also assess the PH assumption for time-independent variab…
Investigating the job mobility of migrant workers in China
This research investigated the job mobility of migrant workers based on a survey of migrant workers in six cities in eastern China. The high degree of job mobility noted among migrant workers was found to be associated with the use of “trial and error” method in their search for better jobs. Differences in the duration of migrants’ stay in the urban labor market and social integration in the destinations resulted in their varying capacity to obta…
The impact of the global economic slowdown on enterprises and employees in China
After the outbreak of the global economic slowdown, the export of products made in China, particularly the labour-intensive ones, has dramatically dropped. Drawing upon a questionnaire survey on 439 employees and 55 enterprises specialized in electronics, toys, furniture and textile and interviews with industrial associations and local governments in two coastal cities, Shenzhen and Wenzhou, we have a number of findings. First, the global economi…
