El turismo internacional incide en la restricción externa al crecimiento. Por lo anterior, se analizó la relación entre turismo y la balanza de cuenta corriente (BCC) para Argentina, Brasil, Chile y Uruguay mediante un análisis de cointegración utilizando modelos autorregresivos de rezagos distribuidos. Este trabajo analiza el efecto de la educación y la salud sobre el crecimiento económico mediante una metodología de regresión con efectos umbral para un panel de 86 países en el período 1960-2010. En concordancia con la literatura de no linealidades, el estudio verifica la existencia de dos umbrales de ingreso a partir de los cuales la salud y la educación afectan al crecimiento económico de forma diferente.
