    Maria Hjalmarsson, Annica Löfdahl•ARTICLE•Gender and Education•2014•Cited by: 4•References: 4

The article explores how male primary school teachers view and relate to other people's expectations of them as teachers. The theoretical work on relations among masculinities developed by Connell and the theoretical concept of care discussed by Noddings are used in the analysis work. Results show on one…

Marie Karlsson, Annica Löfdahl et al.•ARTICLE•British Journal of Sociology of…•2013•Cited by: 6•References: 21

This article aims to contribute to our understanding of how moral aspects of parents’ choices of preschool play a part in the processes of marketisation and privatisation of childcare in Sweden. • Rerouting

    Open Access•Joakim Larsson, Annica Löfdahl et al.•ARTICLE•Education Inquiry•2010•Cited by: 4•References: 9

As Sweden drew nearer to the 2006 national election, two themes emerged in the educational debate: a concern for order and discipline in schools, and the ambition to raise educational levels of achievement. The objective of this article is to locate these two themes within a broader framework of understanding by: 1) discussing examples of how the reinforcement of disciplinary power in schools was introduced, justified and deployed by right-wing c…

  • Hidden Spaces and Places in the Preschool

Open Access•Lovisa Skånfors, Annica Löfdahl et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Early Childhood Research•2009•Cited by: 9•References: 3

The article discusses how children make use of their preschool context in order to withdraw. Ethnographic observations were made of two-to five-year-old children's interactions during free play and teacher-led activities in the preschool, and documentation was carried out through field notes and video recordings. The empirical material was analysed using Corsaro's theory on children's peer cultures. Results show that children, in their peer cultu…

  • Between control and resistance

Annica Löfdahl, Héctor Pérez Prieto•ARTICLE•Journal of Education Policy•2009•Cited by: 2•References: 17

This article contains results from a study based on locally produced planning and evaluation texts from 10 preschool settings in a Swedish middle‐sized town. The texts were mainly from 1999 to 2005, a period during which Swedish preschools were implementing their first curriculum and were subject to several changes including decentralisation, marketisation and competition which taken together brought new demands on visibility. The overarching aim…

  • Spaces of Participation in Pre‐School

    Open Access•Annica Löfdahl, Solveig Hagglund•ARTICLE•Children & Society•2007

This article reports an ethnographic study of pre‐school children's social knowledge domains. Results show how the children's shared knowledge concerning social status and social differentiation in the group was strengthened and confirmed during a traditional teacher‐led ring game, where they were supposed to choose a friend. We suggest that from the perspective of the children, the game situation may be understood as, at the same time, a space o…

Observations of children age three to six years were made during their free playtime in pre-school, and both field notes and videotape recording were used for data collection. Analysis of content in children’s peer-cultures was carried out through Corsaro’s perspective of in…
