  • Mabata-Bata in Motion

Open Access•Lola Geraldes Xavier, João Viana et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities•2024

This paper analyzes Mia Couto’s short story “O dia em que explodiu Mabata-bata” [The day Mabata-bata exploded] and its adaptation by Sol de Carvalho’s film Mabata Bata. Through an analysis of both versions, this study aims to understand how Couto’s narrative was recreated and transfigured in the film adaptation. • An Open Source GIS Application for Spatial Assessment of Health Care Quality Indicators

    Open Access•Lia B Duarte, Ana C Teodoro et al.•ARTICLE•ISPRS International Journal of…•2021

Prevention quality indicators (PQIs) constitute a set of measures that can be combined with hospital inpatient data to identify the quality of care for ambulatory care sensitive conditions (ACSC). Geographical information system (GIS) web mapping and applications contribute to a better representation of PQI spatial distribution. Unlike many countries in the world, in Portugal, this type of application remains underdeveloped. The main objective of…

Open Access•José João Mendes, João Viana et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

We aimed to investigate the association between blood pressure (BP) and tooth loss and the mediation effect of age. A cross-sectional study from a reference dental hospital was conducted from September 2017 to July 2020. Single measures of BP were taken via an automated sphygmomanometer device. Tooth loss was assessed through oral examination and confirmed radiographically. Severe tooth loss was defined as 10 or more teeth lost. Additional study …

  • Health expectancies in the European Union

João Vasco Santos, João Viana et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2021•References: 36

BACKGROUND: Healthy life expectancy (HLE) is a population health measure that combines mortality and morbidity, which can be calculated using different methods. In this study, we aimed to assess the correlation, reliability and (dis)agreement between two estimates monitored in the European Union (EU), that is, the European Commission's HLE based on self-perceived health (SPH-HLE) and the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation's HLE based on …

  • Comparison and Impact of Four Different Methodologies for Identification of Ambulatory Care Sensitive Conditions

Open Access•Andréia Pinto, João Vasco Santos et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Ambulatory care sensitive conditions (ACSCs) are conditions for which hospitalizations are thought to be avoidable if effective and accessible primary health care is available. However, to define which conditions are considered ACSCs, there is a considerable number of different lists. Our aim was to compare the impact of using different ACSC lists considering mainland Portugal hospitalizations. A retrospective study with inpatient data from Portu…
