The impact of teachers' teaching strategies on students' deep learning in online learning environments
Introduction The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated global online education, which faces “shallow learning” challenges. Deep learning is key to student competencies. Based on sociocultural theory, this study explored how teachers' teaching strategies affect online deep learning and the mediating role of learning interactions. Methods Stratified cluster sampling was used to select students from six central Chinese provinces, yielding 10,028 valid sampl…
Human-AI Collaboration in Curriculum Reform
As artificial intelligence (AI) technologies become increasingly integrated into higher education, university instructors are compelled to navigate shifting pedagogical landscapes and reconfigure their professional identities. This qualitative study investigates how university teachers in China perceive and negotiate their roles in AI-mediated classrooms, using a posthumanist theoretical framework to explore human–machine entanglements in pedagog…
Meditation and Music Therapy in the Era of Digitalization
The integration of therapeutic meditation and music therapy has long been recognized for its profound impact on mental health, emotional well-being, and cognitive functioning. Longitudinal association of alcohol use with HIV disease progression and psychological health of women with HIV
We evaluated the association of alcohol consumption and depression, and their effects on HIV disease progression among women with HIV. The study included 871 women with HIV who were recruited from 1993-1995 in four US cities. The participants had physical examination, medical record extraction, and venipuncture, CD4+T-cell counts determination, measurement of depression symptoms (using the self-report Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression…
Nutritive Composition of Tarag, the Traditional Naturally-Fermented Goat Milk in China
Nutritive compositions were analyzed in 10 batches of samples of Tarag (the traditional naturally-fermented goat milk), which were collected in the Mongolian community in China. Results showed that Tarag had richer nutrients than yoghurt. Tarag-2 (from Zang goats) had better chemical nutrient density than Tarag-1 (from Chaidamu goats). Tarag was rich in casein, lactoferrin, serum albumin, β-lactoglobulin, α-lactalbumin, and 3 unknown fractions in…
Associations of Ethnicity/Race and Socioeconomic Status with Early Childhood Caries Patterns
This study supports the association of both ethnicity/race and social status with any early childhood caries. The patterns of caries were each found to be associated with specific and different socioeconomic-demographic indicators. The practical importance of these findings is that global measurement of ECC, without regard to specific caries pattern, leads to the potential for substantial non-differential misclassification of disease. The consequ…
Longitudinal Effects of Coping on Outcome in a Randomized Controlled Trial of a Group Intervention for HIV-Positive Adults with Aids-Related Bereavement
This study examined the longitudinal effects of coping on outcome one year following completion of a randomized, controlled trial of a group coping intervention for AIDS-related bereavement. Bereaved HIV-positive participants (N = 267) were administered measures of grief, psychiatric distress, quality of life, and coping at baseline, post-intervention, and at 4-, 8-, and 12-month follow-ups. Coping strategies directly impacted all outcome variabl…
Excess type 2 diabetes in African-American women and men aged 40–74 and socioeconomic status
OBJECTIVE: To examine whether socioeconomic status (SES) explains differences in the prevalence of type 2 diabetes between African-American and non-Hispanic white women and men. DESIGN: Cross sectional study of diabetes prevalence, SES, and other risk factors ascertained by physical examination and interview. SETTING: Interviews were conducted in subjects' homes; physical examinations were conducted in mobile examination centres. PARTICIPANTS: 96…
