  • Characteristics associated with frequent sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing in a community-based sample of gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM), United Kingdom, 2024

Open Access•Lucy Findlater, George Baldry et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2026

In the UK, gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) at risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are recommended quarterly testing, but it is not known how many are following this recommendation. We described prevalence and correlates of frequent STI testing amongst GBMSM. We analysed data from the community-based Reducing Inequalities in Sexual Health (RiiSH) online survey of GBMSM, with recruitment in November-December 20…

  • PrEPped for Covid? The association between HIV-PrEP use and Covid-19 among men and gender diverse people who have sex with men

Open Access•Caisey V Pulford, Holly Mitchell et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2026

Oral tenofovir and emtricitabine taken as pre-exposure prophylaxis (HIV-PrEP) is highly effective at reducing Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) acquisition. Nucleotide analogues have also been shown to inhibit Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) polymerase activity in vitro, raising the question as to whether tenofovir-based HIV-PrEP could be useful for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19. We sought to examine the a…

  • Knowledge, uptake and intention to use antibiotic post-exposure prophylaxis and meningococcal B vaccine (4CMenB) for gonorrhoea among a large, online community sample of men and gender-diverse individ…

Open Access•Dana Ogaz, Jessica Edney et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2024

Novel STI prevention interventions, including doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis (doxyPEP) and meningococcal B vaccination (4CMenB) against gonorrhoea, have been increasingly examined as tools to aid STI control. There is evidence of the efficacy of doxyPEP in preventing bacterial STIs; however, limited data exist on the extent of use in the UK. We examined self-reported knowledge and use of antibiotic post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), and inte…

  • How does online postal self-sampling (OPSS) shape access to testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs)? A qualitative study of service users

Open Access•Tommer Spence, Alison Howarth et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

Our findings constitute one of the largest qualitative studies to have explored OPSS and offer valuable insights to providers. OPSS shapes access to STI testing in a number of ways, including facilitating access in many circumstances, but users also want to retain access to clinic-based services, particularly for when they believe they need support beyond STI testing

  • Strengthening Infection Control through Interdepartmental Cooperation

Open Access•Asrar Esmaail Alaallah, Nasser Ali Duhyman Alyami et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Posthumanism•2024

Infection prevention and control (IPC) remains a cornerstone of patient safety and quality healthcare delivery. The effective reduction of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) requires not only robust infection control protocols but also sustained interdepartmental cooperation, particularly between medical departments and infection prevention units. This review explores the nature and impact of collaborative efforts aimed at strengthening infe…

  • Inequalities in sexual and reproductive outcomes among women aged 16–24 in England (2012–2019)

Open Access•Danielle Solomon, Jo Gibbs et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2024•Referências: 10

BACKGROUND: Women aged 16-24 in England have a high burden of sexual and reproductive morbidity, with particularly poor outcomes among people living in more deprived areas (including racially minoritised populations). This analysis used national data to examine the disparities within sexual and reproductive outcomes among this population and to assess whether the patterns of inequality were consistent across all outcomes. METHODS: Within this eco…

  • Covid-19 infection and vaccination uptake in men and gender-diverse people who have sex with men in the UK

Open Access•Dana Ogaz, Hester Allen et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

In this community sample, COVID-19 vaccine uptake was high overall, though lower among younger age-groups, gender minorities, and those with poorer well-being. Efforts are needed to limit COVID-19 related exacerbation of health inequalities in groups who already experience a greater burden of poor health relative to other men who have sex with men

  • Sexualised drug use in the United Kingdom (UK)

Open Access•Claire Edmundson, Ellen Heinsbroek et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Drug…•2018

  • Surveillance of sexualised drug use – the challenges and the opportunities

Open Access•Isabelle Giraudon, Alvin J Schmidt et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Drug…•2018

  • Disclosure of HIV Serostatus to Sex Partners in Rural Louisiana

    Hamish Mohammed, Patricia Kissinger•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2006

To examine correlates of HIV disclosure, a convenience sample of 273 HIV-infected persons throughout rural Louisiana were interviewed. Disclosure to sexual partners at time of initial HIV-positive diagnosis and the time of the study interview was ascertained (an average of 5.76 years later). The prevalence of disclosure to past and current sex partners was 57.2% and 80.7% respectively. Those who reinitiated sex with their partner since testing po…
