  • Femicide trends at the start of the 21st. century

    Open Access•Richard Whittington, Alina Haines‐Delmont et al.•ARTICLE•Global Public Health•2023

Lethal violence requires a gender-based analysis which recognises that femicide is different from homicide in many ways. Structural factors such as national income and wealth equality together with government policies may influence the scale of the problem globally. This study is an original attempt to examine associations between femicide rates, these structural factors and national action plans using a longitudinal design. Data from two interna…

  • How do busy hospital circumstances affect mortality and readmission within 60 days

Open Access•Sara Marie Nilsen, Andreas Asheim et al.•ARTICLE•Health Policy•2022

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Improves Physical Function and Fatigue in Mild and Moderate Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Open Access•Merethe Eide Gotaas, Tore C Stiles et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2021

Objective: To study whether standard cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and a shorter, interpersonal oriented cognitive behavioral therapy (I-CBT) can improve physical function and fatigue in patients diagnosed with mild to moderate chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) in a multidisciplinary fatigue clinic. Design: Consecutively 236 participants 18-62 years old meeting the Centre of Decease Control, CDC 1994 criteria, with a subsample also fulfilling t…

  • Biopsychosocial predictors and trajectories of work participation after transdiagnostic occupational rehabilitation of participants with mental and somatic disorders

Open Access•Karen Walseth Hara, Johan Håkon Bjørngaard et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2018

Group-based transdiagnostic occupational rehabilitation programs including participants with mental and somatic disorders have emerged in clinical practice. Knowledge is sparse on subsequent participation in competitive work. This study aimed to investigate trajectories for (re)entry to work for predefined subgroups in a diagnostically heterogeneous sample of sick-listed participants after completing occupational rehabilitation. A cohort of 212 p…

  • Anxiety and depression symptoms and alcohol use among adolescents - a cross sectional study of Norwegian secondary school students

Open Access•Espen Lund Johannessen, Helle Wessel Andersson et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2017

Boys and girls with depressive symptoms and girls with anxiety symptoms are more likely to have unhealthy patterns of alcohol drinking. Preventive strategies at all levels could possibly profit from a common approach to mental health and alcohol use, in particular for girls in mid-adolescence

  • Social and spatial patterns of obesity diffusion over three decades in a Norwegian county population

Open Access•Steinar Krokstad, Linda Ernstsen et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2013

The prevalence of obesity increased in all socioeconomic groups in this Norwegian adult county population from the 1980ies up to present time. The data did not suggest increasing relative inequalities, but increasing absolute socioeconomic differences and a geographical diffusion towards rural districts. Public health preventive strategies should be oriented to counteract the obesity epidemic in the population

  • Prevalence of sexual, physical and emotional abuse in the Norwegian mother and child cohort study

Open Access•Marie Flem Sørbø, Hilde Grimstad et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2013

The reported prevalence of any lifetime abuse was substantial in our low-risk pregnant population. Antenatal care is an opportunity for clinicians to ask about experiences of abuse and identify those at risk

  • High school dropout and long-term sickness and disability in young adulthood

    Open Access•Karin A A De Ridder, Kristine Pape et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2013

High school dropouts have a strongly increased risk for sickness and disability in young adulthood across all quintiles of the propensity score for dropout, i.e. independent of own health, family and socioeconomic factors in adolescence. These findings reveal the importance of early prevention of dropout where possible, combined with increased attention to labour market integration and targeted support for those who fail to complete school

  • Insomnia and High-Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein

Lars Erik Laugsand, Lars J Vatten et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•2012

OBJECTIVE: To explore the hypothesis that insomnia may increase the risk of coronary heart disease through inflammatory mechanisms. METHODS: The association of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) with self-reported symptoms of insomnia was examined. Participants were 8547 men and nonpregnant women who answered one or more insomnia-related questions and who had available hsCRP measurements in the Nord-Trøndelag Health Study. In multivariab…

  • Unemployment and disability pension-an 18-year follow-up study of a 40-year-old population in a Norwegian county

Open Access•Morten Støver, Kristine Pape et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012

Becoming unemployed increased the risk of receiving subsequent disability pension. However, adjusting for baseline health status, health behaviour and education attenuated this impact considerably. The multilevel analysis indicated that a minor, yet statistically significant, proportion of the risk of disability pension can be attributed to the municipality of residence

  • Education-based health inequalities in 18,000 Norwegian couples

Open Access•Sara Marie Nilsen, Johan Håkon Bjørngaard et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012

We found considerable clustering of education and health within couples, which highlighted the importance of the family environment. Our results support previous studies that report the mutual effects of spouses on education-based inequalities in health, suggesting that couples develop their socioeconomic position together

  • School dropout

Karin A A De Ridder, Kristine Pape et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2012•Cited by: 8•References: 22

BACKGROUND: School and work participation in adolescence and young adulthood are important for future health and socioeconomic status. The authors studied the association between self-rated health in adolescents, high school dropout and long-term receipt of medical and non-medical social insurance benefits in young adulthood. METHODS: Self-rated health in adolescence was assessed in 8795 adolescents participating in the Norwegian Young-HUNT Study…

  • Reading and writing difficulties in adolescence and later risk of welfare dependence. A ten year follow-up, the Hunt Study, Norway

Open Access•Kristine Pape, Johan Håkon Bjørngaard et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2011

The associations between RWD in adolescence and welfare dependence later in life suggest that increased attention should be paid to these problems when discussing the public health aspects of work integration, since there might be a potential for prevention
