  • Development of the Children and Adolescents Physical Activity and Sedentary Questionnaire (Capas-Q)

Open Access•Alicia Fillon, Bruno Pereira et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

The CAPAS-Q proposes a reliable and valid evaluation of French children and adolescents' PA and SB, providing clinicians with potential intervention levels to improve youth movement behaviors

  • Variations in accelerometry measured physical activity and sedentary time across Europe – harmonized analyses of 47,497 children and adolescents

Open Access•Jostein Steene‐Johannessen, Bjørge Herman Hansen et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

  • Trends in the prevalence of overweight, obesity and underweight in French children, aged 4–12 years, from 2013 to 2017

    Open Access•Jérémy Vanhelst, Jean-Benoît Baudelet et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2020

Objective: To assess the prevalence of underweight, overweight and obesity in French children from 2013 to 2017. Design: Cross-sectional study performed in fourteen regions of France. Physical measures included weight, height and BMI. Underweight, overweight and obesity were defined according to age- and sex-specific BMI cut-off points from the International Obesity Task Force. Setting: France. Subjects: Children (10 159 boys, 9757 girls) from th…

  • Influence of meteorological conditions on physical activity in adolescents

Laurent Béghin, Jérémy Vanhelst et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2020•Cited by: 1•References: 52

BACKGROUND: It has been shown that meteorological conditions and season affect physical activity (PA) during adolescence. Today, meteorological conditions have never been combined to study their influence on PA level in a single sample of a large adolescent multicountries population. The aim of this study was to explore the influence of meteorological conditions on PA in adolescents from several European countries. METHODS: The study included 202…

  • Adolescents’ diet quality in relation to their relatives’ and peers’ diet engagement and encouragement

Open Access•Jérémy Vanhelst, Laurent Béghin et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2018

Objective To examine the associations between adolescents’ diet quality and their perceived relatives’ and peers’ diet engagement and encouragement. Design Cross-sectional study performed in European countries. Diet quality was scored using the Diet Quality Index for Adolescents (DQI-A) based on four components: quality, diversity, balance and meal frequency. Perceived diet quality engagement and perceived encouragement of the relatives/peers wer…

  • Early life programming of attention capacity in adolescents

Open Access•Irene Esteban‐Cornejo, Pontus Henriksson et al.•ARTICLE•Maternal and Child Nutrition•2017

The study aims to examine the individual and combined association of early life factors (birth weight, birth length, and any and exclusive breastfeeding) with attention capacity in adolescents. The study included 421 European adolescents (243 girls), aged 12.5-17.5 years, who participated in the Healthy Lifestyle in Europe by Nutrition in Adolescence Study. Body weight and length at birth of adolescents were collected from parental records. The d…

    Open Access•Jérémy Vanhelst, Jean-Benoît Baudelet et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2017

Objective To determine the prevalence of underweight, overweight and obesity in French youth from 2009 to 2013 and to determine if there are differences in weight categories according to socio-economic status. Design Cross-sectional study performed in different regions of France. Physical measures included weight, height and BMI. Underweight, overweight and obesity were defined according to age- and sex-specific BMI cut-off points from the Intern…

  • Association of objectively measured physical activity with body components in European adolescents

    Open Access•David Jiménez-Pavón, David Jiménez‐Pavón et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2013

The present study suggests that PA, especially vigorous PA, is negatively associated with indices of fat mass and positively associated with markers of muscle mass, after adjusting for several confounders (including indices of fat mass and muscle mass when possible). Future studies should focus not only on the classical relationship between PA and fat mass, but also on PA and muscular components, analyzing the independent role of both with the di…

  • A conative educational model for an intervention program in obese youth

Open Access•Jérémy Vanhelst, Laurent Béghin et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012

Results following year one of CEMHaVi showed that a program of physical activity and health education had positive effects on obesity, behavior in the classroom and the ability to perform sport activities in obese adolescents. Significant inter-action in changes between variables was observed. Findings are important for designing intervention models to improve health in obese youth

  • Validation of the Vivago Wrist-Worn accelerometer in the assessment of physical activity

Open Access•Jérémy Vanhelst, Rémy Hurdiel et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012

Results of the study suggest that the Vivago® wrist-worn accelerometer is a valid measure of PA at varying levels of intensity. The study has also defined threshold values at 4 intensities and hence te Vivago® accelerometer may be used to quantify PA in free living conditions among adults. This device has possible application in treating a variety of important health concerns
