  • Worsened Financial Situation During the Covid-19 Pandemic Was Associated With Depressive Symptomatology Among University Students in Germany

Open Access•Sarah Negash, Nadja Kartschmit et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2021

Background: Previous findings suggest that university students are at an elevated risk to experience financial hardship and to suffer from depressive symptoms. This vulnerability may have substantially increased during the coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic which might have affected students' socio-economic situation but possibly also their mental well-being. We examined whether the financial situation changed during the COVID-19 pandemic…

Open Access•Rafael Mikolajczyk, Rafael T Mikolajczyk et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012

There were substantial differences in body satisfaction and perceived appearance across the three largest ethnic groups of school-age children in the U.S. Stability across age indicates that these perceptions are most likely established before the age of 10 and underline the importance of primary schools and parents in prevention. Special attention should be directed to the dramatic loss of positive perceived appearance among African-American boy…

Survival analysis was applied to assess age-specific vaccination rates, and multilevel logistic regression analysis was used to assess …

  • Selected sociodemographic factors and related differences in patterns of alcohol use among university students in Slovakia

Open Access•René Šebeňa, Olga Orosova et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2011

Our findings for the university students from Slovakia are in line with previous studies in Western Europe. Additionally, it appears that frequent alcohol use, excessive alcohol use (heavy episodic drinking and drunkenness) and problem drinking among university students represent a continuum and are influenced by the same sociodemographic factors

  • Relationship between perceived body weight and body mass index based on self- reported height and weight among university students

Open Access•Rafael Mikolajczyk, Rafael T Mikolajczyk et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2010

Weight ideals are rather uniform across the European countries, with female students being more likely to perceive themselves as "too fat" at a normal BMI, while male students being more likely to perceive themselves as "too thin". Programs to prevent unhealthy behaviours to achieve ill-advised weight ideals may benefit students

  • Factors associated with self-rated health status in university students

Open Access•Rafael Mikolajczyk, Rafael T Mikolajczyk et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2008

The results suggest that SRHS can be reasonably used to compare students' health across countries. SRHS is affected by different physical, psychological and psychosomatic aspects of health; however, its strongest association is with psychosomatic complaints

  • Correlates of depressive symptoms among Latino and Non-Latino White adolescents

Open Access•Rafael Mikolajczyk, Rafael T Mikolajczyk et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2007
