Validation of a population coronary disease predictive system
BACKGROUND: The use of validated multivariate cardiovascular predictive models in a population setting is of interest for public health policy makers. We aimed to validate the estimations of the CASSANDRA model (coronary heart disease (CHD) incidence and CHD risk distribution), considering the population changes in age, sex and CHD risk factors prevalence in a 10-year period. METHODS: We compared the projected CHD incidence estimated with CASSAND…
Validity of an adaptation of the Framingham cardiovascular risk function
Background: To assess the reliability and accuracy of the Framingham coronary heart disease (CHD) risk function adapted by the Registre Gironí del Cor (REGICOR) investigators in Spain. Methods: A 5-year follow-up study was completed in 5732 participants aged 35–74 years. The adaptation consisted of using in the function the average population risk factor prevalence and the cumulative incidence observed in Spain instead of those from Framingham in…
Short-term mortality of myocardial infarction patients with diabetes or hyperglycaemia during admission
Aim: The hypothesis that patients with hyperglycaemia during admission, regardless of previous diagnosis of diabetes, have worse prognosis than those with normal glucose values is controversial. The objective was to assess the role of hyperglycaemia on short-term mortality after myocardial infarction (MI). Methods and Results: A cohort study nested in a prospective registry of MI patients in the reference hospital of Gerona, Spain was performed. …
High prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors in Gerona, Spain, a province with low myocardial infarction incidence. Regicor Investigators
STUDY OBJECTIVE: To establish the prevalence of main cardiovascular risk factors in the province of Gerona, where the incidence of myocardial infarction is known to be low. DESIGN: This was a cross sectional study of prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors conducted on a large random population sample. SETTING: The province of Gerona, Spain. PARTICIPANTS: Two thousand four hundred and four eligible inhabitants of Gerona aged between 25 and 74 y…
Pairwise associations between classical polymorphism in a human population from the Central Pyrenees
Analysis of pairwise associations between 17 genetic systems was performed on a sample of 160 unrelated and autochthonous individuals from the Spanish central Pyrenees. In contrast to other studies, association between ABO-Hp, ACP1-ADA or EsD-C3 systems was not detected. Significant differences between observed and expected frequencies of the joint phenotypes of Gc-P pilymorphisms are described $$\chi ^2 _4 $$ . The significance of this associati…
