Translanguaging in L3 instruction
Translanguaging has attracted growing attention in foreign language education; however, despite generally positive student and teacher attitudes, empirical evidence remains limited, particularly in third language (L3) learning. Addressing this gap, the present study examines how translanguaging pedagogy supports multilingual development by investigating additional language developers’ L3 German spoken skills development and perceptions of transla…
The negative consequences of avoiding health information on health risk behaviors
The study aims at measuring and validating the stimulus organism response (SOR) theory among health consumers, as well as identifying the factors that predict health information avoidance behavior and its relationship to risk behaviors. A cross-sectional survey design was employed to collect the data from health consumers, who have either recently used health services or are likely to do so in the future. An eight-factor (information overload, ri…
Exploring the determinants and effects of artificial intelligence (AI) hallucination exposure on generative AI adoption in healthcare
Artificial intelligence (AI) hallucinations—erroneous outputs that generate misleading or nonsensical content—pose significant risks in contexts where consumers seek health information, as inaccuracies in this domain could lead to harmful outcomes. This study aims to explore determinants of AI hallucination exposure (HEX), examine the potential HEX's direct and mediating effects on adoption intentions, and integrate HEX into the Theory of Planned…
Mitigating food insecurity through sustainable livelihoods framework (SLF)
The shocks experienced between 2020 and 2022, specifically the COVID-19 epidemic and the surge in commodity prices, have highlighted a precarious scenario for the resilience of the global food system. This paper examines the determinants of global food security using the Sustainable Livelihoods Framework (SLF) across a panel of 74 developing and developed countries from 2011 to 2022. An Analysis and Comparison of the Differences in the Realization of Interpersonal Functions in Different Political Keynote Speeches
This research employs Halliday's theory of the interpersonal function to scrutinize and contrast language patterns and techniques in keynote speeches delivered by notable political figures, specifically former US President Donald Trump, ex-UK Prime Minister Theresa May, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. In the era of globalization, where increased interconnectedness emphasizes the importance of political speeches, shaping nations and…
The Auxiliary Role of Artificial Intelligence Applications in Mitigating the Linguistic, Psychological, and Educational Challenges of Teaching and Learning Chinese Language by non-Chinese Students
Learners might have several challenges while attempting to learn a second/foreign language. Learners of Chinese face linguistic, psychological, and educational challenges. The integration of technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI), into teaching foreign languages is a blessing for teachers and learners. Revolutionizing Educational Systems Through the Belt and Road Initiative
The cultural inclusion of education systems is important to create cross-cultural understandings and to facilitate the integration of diverse identities when considering the context of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). This calls for the development of innovative informatics frameworks for supporting cultural interactions and long-term cooperation. Ultimately, there is no scaled model to introduce cultural diversity to the mainstream, notably f…
Racial and sociodemographic predictors of Covid-19 compared with influenza, appendicitis, and all-cause hospitalization
Racial/ethnic and sociodemographic inequities in diagnosed COVID-19 and hospitalization differed from those for diagnosed influenza and other medical conditions, with consistently higher odds among Latine and Spanish-speaking patients. This work highlights the need for disease-specific public health efforts in at-risk communities in addition to structural upstream interventions
Measuring and Promoting Sars-CoV-2 Vaccine Equity
Purpose: The coronavirus pandemic has created the greatest public health crisis in a century, causing >500,000 deaths in the United States alone. Minoritized and socioeconomically disadvantaged groups have borne a disproportionate burden of severe illness, hospitalization, and death from COVID-19. Recently developed FDA-approved vaccines have been shown to significantly reduce severe COVID-19–related outcomes. Vaccination campaigns have the poten…
Disparities In Outcomes Among Covid-19 Patients In A Large Health Care System In California
As the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic spreads throughout the United States, evidence is mounting that racial and ethnic minorities and socioeconomically disadvantaged groups are bearing a disproportionate burden of illness and death. We conducted a retrospective cohort analysis of COVID-19 patients at Sutter Health, a large integrated health system in northern California, to measure potential disparities.
