  • Neurobiological insights into perinatal depression: A multi-dimensional integration of brain structure, function, and metabolism

Open Access•Yue Sun, Linlin Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2026

Objective Perinatal depression (PND) represents a significant challenge to maternal and infant health. In recent years, the rapid advancement of neuroimaging techniques has offered critical insights for elucidating the neurobiological mechanisms underlying PND. This review aims to systematically synthesize the research progress on structural, functional, and metabolic abnormalities in specific brain regions of patients with perinatal depression, …

  • Motivation and Self-Regulated Learning Among Online English Learners: Profiles and Pedagogical Implications

Open Access•Shifang Tang, Zhuoying Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Education Sciences•2025

In this study, we examined the interrelations between motivation and self-regulated learning (SRL) strategies in the context of online English language instruction among Chinese university students. Data were collected from 1100 first-year undergraduates enrolled in an online College English course. Canonical correlation analysis revealed significant multivariate associations between motivational constructs and SRL strategies. Cluster analysis fu…

  • Association between oral health and bowel habits: A cross-sectional study

Open Access•Zuhong Ji, Mei Jiang et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

Both chronic constipation and diarrhea were associated with higher risk of poor teeth condition. In the general population and subgroup analyses, individuals with stool frequency around 8-10 times per week demonstrated the lowest risk of poor teeth condition. Stratified analysis indicates that dietary fiber intake and PIR might modify the observed relationship between abnormal bowel habits and teeth condition

  • Multi-omics reveals Fuyuan Xingnao Decoction's therapeutic mechanism in cerebral infararction via gut microbiota and JAK2-STAT3 pathway

Open Access•Chuanqi Wan, Changjin Wan et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2025

  • A lifestyle-based prediction model for obesity in Chinese adolescent students

Open Access•Mei Jiang, He Zhou•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sports and Active…•2025

Introduction Adolescent obesity has emerged as a critical global public health challenge, necessitating effective tools for early identification and intervention. This study aimed to identify significant contributing factors and develop a predictive model for adolescent obesity using machine learning algorithms. Methods An anonymised dataset of 2,338 adolescents was utilised, incorporating variables related to family factors, lifestyle behaviours…

  • Perceiving power: A study of spatial relations as perceptual symbols

    Open Access•Mei Jiang, Tracy B Henley et al.•ARTICLE•Current Psychology•2023

  • The Impact of Environmental Pollution and Economic Growth on Public Health: Evidence From China

Open Access•Xiaochun Zhao, Mei Jiang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

A comprehensive understanding of the impact of economic growth and environmental pollution on public health is crucial to the sustainable development of public health. In this paper, an individual fixed effect model is used to analyze the impact of environmental pollution and economic growth on public health, based on the panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2007 to 2018. The research finds that: First, the health status of China's four regio…

  • Evaluation of Essential and Toxic Elements in the Blood of 0–14-Year-Old Children in Hunan, China From 2013 to 2019: A Retrospective Analysis

Open Access•Shan Tan, Yang Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

Objective: The aim was to investigate the distribution and correlation of Ca, Mg, Zn, Cu, Fe, Pb, and Cd in the blood of children aged 0-14 years in Hunan, China, which may serve to provide a basis for clinical guidance on child health. Study Design: A retrospective analysis was carried out. Concentrations of all elements were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Distributions were analyzed and compared among different age, sex, and…

  • Decoupling between Economic Development and Carbon Emissions and Its Driving Factors: Evidence from China

Open Access•Xiaochun Zhao, Mei Jiang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Analyzing the relationship between economic development and carbon emissions is conducive to better energy saving and emission reduction. This study is based on the panel data of China's carbon emissions, from 2009 to 2019, and quantitative analysis of the relationship between carbon emissions and economic development through the Tapio decoupling model and the Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index (LMDI) decomposition model. The results show that: First…

  • Variants in Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition and Immune Checkpoint Genes Are Associated With Immune Cell Profiles and Predict Survival in Non–Small Cell Lung Cancer

Edwin Roger Parra, Mei Jiang et al.•ARTICLE•Archives of Pathology &…•2020

Genetic variants in epithelial-mesenchymal transition and immune checkpoint genes are associated with immune cell profiles and may predict patient outcomes and response to immune checkpoint blockade.

  • Long-Term Effects of Mind-Body Exercises on the Physical Fitness and Quality of Life of Individuals With Substance Use Disorder—A Randomized Trial

Open Access•Dong Zhu, Mei Jiang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

Background: Mind-body exercises (MBE) are sequences of low to medium-intensity activities that benefit healthy performers physically and mentally. In contrast to the unmodified application of traditional tai chi, qi gong, or yoga in the healthy population, MBEs are typically tailored for individuals with substance abuse disorder (SUD). Despite numerous applications in practice, the detailed effects of tailor-made MBEs for SUD are unclear. Objecti…

  • Acculturation in relation to the acquisition of a second language

Mei Jiang, Jiang Mei et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Multilingual and…•2009•Cited by: 10•References: 32

Learners who begin to acquire a second language (L2) in a naturalistic environment after puberty are thought to be constrained by biological age factors and to have greater difficulty obtaining native-like L2. However, the extant literature suggests that L2 acquisition may be positively affected by post-maturational factors, such as acculturation. This exploratory study examined the relationship between acculturation and L2 acquisition on Chinese…
