Development and psychometric evaluation of a measure to assess ageism using a socioecological model
The Impact of Positive Self‐Perceptions of Aging on Subjective Well‐Being through the Mediation of Psychological Resilience among Community‐Dwelling Older Adults during Covid‐19 in Taiwan
During the COVID‐19 pandemic, the well‐being of older adults has been highlighted as a significant public health concern. In this study, we investigated the role of psychological resilience in mediating the relationship between positive self‐perceptions of aging (SPA) and the subjective well‐being (SWB) of community‐dwelling older adults in Taiwan during the pandemic. We collected data through face‐to‐face interviews conducted from October 2021 t…
Do ageist attitudes affect home care workers’ job satisfaction and retention
With the rapid increase of older adults, attracting and retaining home care workers in the long-term care system will be critical to meet demands. This study examined how intrinsic and extrinsic factors of job satisfaction affect home care workers’ intention to stay and determined whether ageist attitudes had a mediating effect on the relationship between job satisfaction and intention to stay. The stratified random cluster sampling method was ap…
Functional and Cognitive Impairments Increased Risks of Outcomes of Healthcare Utilization in Patients With Stroke Receiving Home and Community-Based Care in Taiwan
Aim: Stroke is a leading cause of disability; however, little is known about the outcomes of the utilization of long-term care (LTC) recipients in Taiwan. This study aimed to quantify the burdens of disease of stroke survivors receiving LTC by evaluating the outcomes of their utilization including mortality, readmissions, and re-emergency within 1 year after diagnoses of strokes. Methods: By interlinkages among the national mortality registry, LT…
Can We Apply WHOQOL-AGE to Asian Population? Verifying Its Factor Structure and Psychometric Properties in a Convenience Sample From Taiwan
Objectives: To translate and validate a recently developed quality of life instrument (WHOQOL-AGE) on geriatric population into Chinese. Method: Using cross-sectional observational design, the WHOQOL-AGE was conducted among older people through interview. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to examine the factor structure and multigroup CFA used to examine the measurement invariance. Results: Through convenience sampling, 522 older adults…
Profile of Long-Term Care Recipients Receiving Home and Community-Based Services and the Factors That Influence Utilization in Taiwan
For long-term care needs, the phenomenon of a short utilization period was concerning. This study adds information which suggests policy should reconsider care capacity and quality, especially for moderate to severely dependent recipients. This will allow for better understanding to help maintain care recipients in their own communities to achieve the goal of having an aging in place policy
The Implementation of Restorative Care and Factors Associated with Resident Outcomes in Long-Term Care Facilities in Taiwan
This study aimed to analyze how restorative care is implemented in long-term care facilities and factors associated with resident outcomes in Taiwan. A one-group pre-test and post-test design was adopted in 24 long-term care facilities by collecting a sample of 310 participants at the baseline and 210 at six months. Participants were residents aged 65 or over, and were being constrained, used diapers, or were bedridden, or a combination of these.…
The Effectiveness of Home Services in Taiwan
Among available home and community-based services in Taiwan, there should be a focus on providing people with people-centered, value-based services. This study aims to follow up the people-centered health outcomes of care recipients and to examine the factors associated with to feedback for policy and practice in long-term care. A total of 9889 persons from the long-term care dataset were followed up for two years (T0−T4). The Cox Proportional Ha…
Exploring factors influencing residents’ health outcomes in long-term care facilities
A longitudinal evaluation of residents’ health outcomes in nursing homes and residential care homes in Taiwan
Reliability and validity of childhood asthma control test in a population of Chinese asthmatic children
Admission to Nursing Homes in Taiwan
The population of Taiwan is facing a radical ageing process. A proportion of the growing number of people aged 65 and over is expected to need nursing home care. This research concerns the family context of decision‐making in the process of admission to a nursing home in Taiwan. Employing survey data from interviews with elderly people in nursing homes (235 interviews) and their carers/key families (265 interviews), the factors affecting their vi…
