Addressing Access Barriers in Rural America: A Mixed‐Methods Study of Wisconsin's Family Resource Centers
Purpose Family Resource Centers (FRCs) are place‐based programs with great potential to address rural access barriers and improve health outcomes, yet empirical evidence on these programs is lacking. Using multiple data sources from a longitudinal investigation in Wisconsin, this mixed‐methods study analyzed whether and how FRCs address rural access barriers. Methods A convergent parallel mixed‐methods design was used to gather, analyze, and inte…
Cultural patterns of psychosocial development in late adolescence: A latent profile approach across the United States, Italy, and Taiwan
The aim of this study was to examine the cultural applicability of widely used psychosocial measures and identify patterns of psychosocial development among late adolescents in Taiwan, Italy, and the United States (N = 1,335). Measurement invariance testing revealed partial non-invariance across groups, particularly at the item intercept and factor loading levels. Using latent profile analysis (LPA), four distinct psychosocial profiles emerged wi…

Trauma Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (T-SBIRT) Implemented within Tanf Employment Services: An Outcome Study
The current study tested a trauma screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (T-SBIRT) interview protocol as implemented within Temporary Assistance to Needy Families programming. Using a non-experimental process evaluation and quasi-experimental outcome evaluation (N = 88), the study assessed four research questions. First, do T-SBIRT providers reach model adherence rates above 90%? Second, do over 90% of T-SBIRT completers experie…
Disparities in adverse childhood experiences by race/ethnicity, gender, and economic status: Intersectional analysis of a nationally representative sample
Home Visiting Effects on Breastfeeding and Bedsharing in a Low-Income Sample
BACKGROUND: Research suggests that home visiting interventions can promote breastfeeding initiation, though their effects on breastfeeding continuation are unclear. No known studies have assessed the impact of home visiting on bedsharing. AIMS: To test the effects of home visiting on breastfeeding and bedsharing in a low-income, urban sample in the United States. METHODS: During a field trial conducted in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from April 2014 to …
Toward the assessment of adverse adult experiences: An initial validation study of the adult experiences survey
Extending research on adverse childhood experiences, the findings indicate that adverse adult experiences can be measured reliably and validly using a brief assessment. Implications are discussed, including opportunities to advance the study of trauma and resilience over the life course. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2021 APA, all rights reserved)
Reaching Adult Status Among Emerging Adults in United States, Italy, and Taiwan
Today, most societies allow more time for young people to transition to adulthood. Compared to youth from a generation ago, young people today are delaying marriage, prolonging their educational pursuits, and deemphasizing the need for a single life-long career. The purpose of this study was to delineate patterns of transitioning to adulthood among young people from three countries. As part of a collaborative multisite project, 1,310 emerging adu…
A Test of the Family Stress Model Using a Remarriage Sample
The family stress model delineates the connections between economic hardship, economic pressure, marital interactions, marital quality, and, finally, marital instability. This study evaluated the family stress model in a sample of 661 remarried couples using structural equation modeling. The model was evaluated both within and between spouses. Consistent with the family stress model, marital instability and quality were influenced by economic har…
