  • Are Leisure Constraints Models Reflective or Formative

Shintaro Kono, Eiji Ito et al.•ARTICLE•Leisure Sciences•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 36

Kyle and Jun raised a serious question against the way researchers have specified leisure constraints measurement model: Leisure constraints measures should be formatively measured, while the dominant model has been reflective. Despite their important theoretical contributions, Kyle and Jun’s empirical evidence has limitations. The purpose of this paper is to directly examine their hypothesis by using a statistical method called confirmatory tetr…

  • The measurement model of leisure constraint negotiation in leisure-time physical activity context

Shintaro Kono, Eiji Ito et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Leisure Research•2020•Cited by: 7•References: 5

There are two types of measurement models: reflective and formative. Kyle and Jun critiqued that while past leisure constraints studies assumed the reflective model, the formative counterpart may better fit extant measures; this was empirically supported by Kono, Ito, and Loucks-Atkinson. The purpose of this short research note is to extend this key methodological discussion to the realm of constraint negotiation, another important construct in t…

  • University-based physical literacy programming for children

Open Access•Kyoung June Yi, Erin Cameron et al.•ARTICLE•Health Promotion International•2019

‘Physical literacy’ (PL) education—that is, teaching foundational skills, attitudes, behaviors and knowledge about lifelong involvements in physical activities, is an important aspect for health promotion among children. Universities have been playing a critical role by teaching future PL professionals. Additionally, various universities have offered university-based PL programming for neighborhood children as a way of public health promotion ser…

  • Role of Self-Efficacy in the Constraints Negotiation Process

    Angela Loucks‐Atkinson, Angela Loucks-Atkinson et al.•ARTICLE•Leisure Sciences•2007•Cited by: 30•References: 23

This cross-sectional survey study examined the constraints negotiation process associated with participation in physically active leisure activities among individuals with fibromyalgia. A measure of negotiation-efficacy was developed. Four models were hypothesized, tested, and compared. The results were consistent with a model in which constraints decreased participation but also triggered the use of negotiation strategies that in turn increased …
