    Is socialism dead? No. Has it been weakened? Yes. Those who speak of the death of socialism as we knew it refer to the demise of Communist party rule in Eastern Europe. This was a significant development but Communists continue to rule in China, Cuba, North Korea and Laos. Unless the parameters of death have been greatly exaggerated, this does not seem like death to me
