  • Legality of soundscape alterations induced by tourism-related soundmaking in residential locations

Open Access•Jenna Päläs, Mirva Salminen et al.•ARTICLE•Tourism Geographies•2026

Sound can be viewed as a space with conflicts and object of legal alignment, particularly when tourism activities enter residential locations. Short-term rentals (STRs) have induced the expansion of tourism into locations designated for residential purposes. In this article, we approach soundscapes and soundmaking from a private law perspective by asking when do the sounds generated by STRs become atypical and, thus, illegal in a housing company.…

  • Marketing of Tourism Experiences

Gayle Jennings, Young-Sook Lee et al.•BOOK•Marketing of Tourism Experiences•2013

This book provides a review of the current theory and practice of experiential tourism and how it is marketed. Many societies today are characterised by widespread individual wealth of an order previously confined to the elite with the consequence that ownership of 'ordinary' physical goods is no longer a distinguishing factor. Instead people are now seeking the 'extraordinary' with examples being bodies enhanced through surgery, personal fitness…
