Making trigger-action rules more comprehensible
Trigger-Action Programming is a commonly used paradigm in End-User Development interfaces, allowing users without programming experience to create new automation systems. Even if considered easy to grasp, this approach poses some challenges: non-programmers often confuse events (instantaneous occurrences) and states (prolonged occurrences), leading to critical errors in the definition of triggers. Although past research has already questioned the…
Virtual reality for the training of soft skills for professional education
This paper presents a literature review of 33 papers published on virtual reality-based soft skills training, selected using the PRISMA checklist and flow diagram. The analysis was conducted using the qualitative approach of grounded theory for literature review. Four relevant themes that highlight the major trends and the research gaps were identified: the types of soft skills usually targeted with virtual reality, the types and the characterist…
Do psychological traits influence the perceived usefulness of rule recommendations in configuration tasks

Our results suggest that while overall recommendations help improve the performance in the task, the psychological traits of Self-efficacy and Need for Cognition play an important role in determining the perceived usefulness of the recommendations. These effects are somehow different from those…

Attention‐driven read‐aloud technology increases reading comprehension in children with reading disabilities
The paper presents the design of an assistive reading tool that integrates read‐aloud technology with eye tracking to regulate the speed of reading and support struggling readers in following the text while listening to it. The paper describes the design rationale of this approach, following the theory of auditory–visual integration, in terms of an automatic self‐adaptable technique based on the reader's gaze that provides an individualized inter…

Social media are implemented by organisations to enhance productivity and knowledge sharing among employees, but they can also support group deliberation and employee voice. This paper presents a case study of an online deliberation initiative involving the discussion of a contentious internal policy within an organisation of around 550 knowledge workers. The deliberation process lasted 5 weeks and actively involved 167 employees. Different sourc…
