  • The panacea of heatwaves: Can climate finance mitigate heatwave welfare costs

Open Access•Congyu Zhao, Kangyin Dong et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Disaster…•2025

This paper investigates the impact of climate finance on heatwave welfare costs using a panel dataset covering 137 countries for the period 2005-2019. We also delve into gender heterogeneity in the nexus between climate finance and heatwave welfare costs, as well as the moderating and mediation effects. We first find that climate finance significantly contributes to reducing heatwave welfare costs, indicating it is a vital means of mitigating the…

  • Breaking carbon lock-in: The role of green financial inclusion for China

Congyu Zhao, Farhad Taghizadeh-Hesary et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Environmental Planning…•2024

This article evaluates the composite index of carbon lock-in (CLI), and then examines whether green financial inclusion (GFI) can help to explain the pace of CLI in 283 Chinese cities for the period 2010–2017. We also conduct four heterogeneous analyses, and detect the asymmetric, threshold, and mediating effects in the GFI-CLI nexus. The primary findings reveal that: (1) GFI plays a significant role in CLI abatement; (2) the restraining effect o…

  • How green growth affects carbon emissions in China: The role of green finance

    Open Access•Jun Zhao, Farhad Taghizadeh-Hesary et al.•ARTICLE•Economic Research-Ekonomska…•2023

Accelerating the green transition of the economy is an effective way to conserve energy and reduce emissions, and its impact on the greenhouse effect deserves in-depth discussion. Based on this, we examine the potential effect of China’s green growth on carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by applying provincial panel data from 2004 to 2018. The regional heterogeneity and how does green finance affect the green growth-CO2 nexus are also checked. The pr…

Natural gas import security has been a hot issue, and its environmental effects remain unsettled. In the context of carbon neutrality, this study aims to investigate the nexus between natural gas import security and CO 2 emissions. For this purpose, we propose an effective composite index to measure the natural gas import security levels of 30 countries over the period 2004–2019. Then we construct a dynamic panel data model to estimate the impact…
