  • Balancing accuracy and explainability: An ensemble-KAN model for patent grant prediction

Open Access•Jing Shi, Xinyi Peng et al.•ARTICLE•Scientometrics•2026

A patent is valuable intellectual property only when granted and held for the long term, and patent grant prediction is a potential strategy for reducing the uncertainty of innovation. Existing machine learning-based prediction models lack interpretability, making it difficult to effectively mitigate innovation risks. This study proposes a novel model for patent prediction that combines high predictive accuracy with strong interpretability. (1) F…

  • Correlation between symptom distress and quality of life in patients with Chronic Kidney Disease Stage 5 undergoing hemodialysis in China: A multi-center cross-sectional study

Open Access•Xue Qiao, Yifei Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2026

Aim To explore the symptom distress and quality of life status of patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Stage 5 undergoing hemodialysis in China, and their correlation. Methods The Dialysis Symptom Index (DSI) and the Kidney Disease Quality of Life Short Form (KDQOL-SFTM 1.3), two widely used assessment tools for hemodialysis patients, were used for evaluation. Results The patients reported an average of 13 symptoms. The most common symptoms…

  • Migration, household services, and urban female labor supply: Evidence from China

  • Survival and disease burden analyses of occupational pneumoconiosis during 1958–2021 in Huangshi city, China: A retrospective cohort study

    Open Access•Hai-Lian Chen, Chun-Hu Li et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

Our findings highlight the urgent need for improved prevention, earlier detection, and more effective management strategies for the occupational pneumoconiosis population. This study not only underscores the persistent issue of pneumoconiosis in industrial environments but also serves as a crucial call to action for policymakers and healthcare providers

  • Using students’ epistemic uncertainty as a pedagogical resource to develop knowledge in argumentation

    Ying-Chih Chen, Xue Qiao•ARTICLE•International Journal of Science…•2020

This longitudinal case study explores how students’ epistemic uncertainty in argumentation can be adapted as a resource to develop knowledge in a fifth-grade classroom. Major data sources include 12 videotaped whole-class discussions focused on group presentation of arguments to obtain peers’ critiques across two course units, the ecosystem and the human body systems, over a 16-week period. Grounded in a qualitative, interpretative approach, the …

  • Effects of pharmaceutical price regulation: China's evidence between 1997 and 2008

Binzhen Wu, Qiong Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of the Asia Pacific Economy•2014

This study uses a macro-level data during the period between 1997 and 2008 to evaluate the effects of China's pharmaceutical price regulations. We find that the regulations exert short-run effects on pharmaceutical price indexes, reducing them by less than 0.5 percentage points. The effects can be slightly reinforced if the price regulations were to be applied to more medicines. The price regulations fail to reduce household health expenditures a…
