  • A multi-measure investigation of mind wandering, creativity, and attention

    Open Access•Berna Altunisik, Andrew F Jarosz•ARTICLE•Consciousness and Cognition•2026

  • Navigating the Garden Path

    Open Access•Sarah K C Dygert, Andrew F Jarosz•ARTICLE•Journal of Intelligence•2026

Resolving misrepresentations is key when faced with ambiguous information. For example, problem-solvers may misrepresent the constraints of a problem, while readers may misrepresent parts of a sentence. This work investigates how a shared cognitive process might facilitate the restructuring of representations during complex tasks. Students from Mississippi State University participated in studies demonstrating that similar restructuring processes…

  • Learning by Invention

    Andrew F Jarosz, Olga Goldenberg et al.•ARTICLE•Discourse Processes•2017•Cited by: 3•References: 23

Learning by invention is an alternative approach to teaching statistics where students are tasked with attempting to solve a problem before being taught the canonical formula for solving it, often resulting in increased understanding of material compared with traditional instruction. The first study, conducted in a college statistics classroom with mixed-skill groups, extended previous work showing an advantage for learning-by-invention activitie…

  • What Are the Odds? A Practical Guide to Computing and Reporting Bayes Factors

Open Access•Andrew F Jarosz, Jennifer Wiley•ARTICLE•The Journal of Problem Solving•2014

The purpose of this paper is to provide an easy template for the inclusion of the Bayes factor in reporting experimental results, particularly as a recommendation for articles in the Journal of Problem Solving. The Bayes factor provides information with a similar purpose to the p-value – to allow the researcher to make statistical inferences from data provided by experiments. While the p-value is widely used, the Bayes factor provides several adv…
