Bitcoin mining as strategic energy infrastructure
We argue that Bitcoin mining can be analyzed as strategic energy infrastructure under specific institutional and electricity-system conditions, rather than being assessed only as a digital commodity activity or as aggregate electricity consumption. Our perspective links energy assets to hashpower, that is, the aggregate computational work devoted to securing the Bitcoin ledger, and, in turn, to security services that underpin censorship resistanc…
When should Bitcoin mining qualify as a large, flexible load? A conditional regulatory framework
Separates LFL qualification from admission and public-interest safeguards. • Proposes auditable tests for admitting or refusing Bitcoin mining loads. • Uses MEF disclosure for location-hour environmental assessment. • Adds interconnection and cost-allocation screens to prevent cost shifting. • Treats admission options as conditional and revisable.
Prudential regulation and bank solvency based on flexible distributions
This paper proposes new risk measures by accurately estimating the components of solvency risk and focusing on prudential policy implementation. We use semi‐nonparametric statistics to model the stylised facts of the probability density functions, particularly the higher‐order moments of three variables: the solvency decline rate, the tier decline rate and the portfolio growth rate. The proposed measures allow the evaluation of the impact of expa…
