Las oraciones exclamativas indirectas
Las oraciones exclamativas, tanto las directas como las indirectas, han recibido menor atención que las interrogativas correspondientes. El objetivo de este trabajo es demostrar, por un lado, que ambas construcciones han de considerarse como independientes la una de la otra; es decir, vamos a probar, en primer lugar, que las oraciones exclamativas tienen una morfosintaxis y una semántica diferente de las interrogativas y, por ello, no tiene senti…
Dialectal variation in the expression of que in sí-que ‘yes that’ contexts across Spanish
This paper investigates dialectal microvariation across the Spanish-speaking world in terms of the presence/absence of que in sí-que contexts. The function of this construction is to signal the speaker’s commitment to the truth of the proposition. In this connection, we argue that the syntactic account recently proposed by Villa-García & González Rodríguez (2020) for polarity-encoding sí ‘yes’ on the one hand and for sí-que ‘yes that’ sequences i…
The Lack of Subject Inversion in Puerto Rican Infinitive Clauses
This paper explores the syntactic variation in Spanish focusing on a difference between European and Puerto Rican Spanish: the lack of subject-verb inversion in Puerto Rican infinitive clauses. Whereas infinitive subjects must follow the verb in European Spanish, they can also appear in preverbal position in Puerto Rican Spanish. On the one hand, this paper provides a detailed description of the phenomenon; for example, it determines what type of…
On the Contrasts Between sí ‘yes’ and sí que ‘yes that’ in Spanish and the Structure of the Complementizer Phrase Domain
This paper aims to account for a host of old and novel syntactic contrasts between the emphatic polarity particle sí ‘yes’ and its putative counterpart with an instance of the complementizer que – sí que ‘yes that’ in Spanish. Even though the two constructions appear to be synonymous in certain contexts, closer inspection reveals that the two elements display a number of non-trivial asymmetries in their behavior and distribution and convey differ…

Sobre los modificadores de aproximación y precisión
En este trabajo proponemos que los modificadores de aproximación son términos de polaridad positiva, es decir, que son incompatibles con la negación, mientras que los de precisión no lo son. Se describen los contextos en los que los modificadores de aproximación son rechazados y, a partir del análisis semántico de los modificadores de aproximación y precisión desarrollado por U. Sauerland y P. Stateva (en prensa), se explica por qué los primeros …
