What Determines Country‐Level ESG Performance
This study provides empirical evidence on the country‐level dynamics of ESG performance using two novel composite indicators across a panel of 123 countries from 2006 to 2022. A distributionally robust estimation strategy is employed, whereby method of moments panel quantile regression is adopted to take account for the non‐normal distributional properties of ESG scores and to reveal potential asymmetries across the conditional distribution. Resu…

The impact of growth, energy and financial development on the environment in China
Purchasing Power Parity In Mena Revisited
This paper re-examines the Purchasing Power Parity hypothesis in which the endogenously determined break points are incorporated in 13 major MENA countries by using official and black market exchange rates data over 1970-1998. We utilize Lagrange Multiplier unit root test that endogenously determines structural breaks in level. We find evidence of PPP for eight of the thirteen countries at the 10% level or better. We also construct the half lives…
Stock Market and Banking sector Development in Turkey
This article investigates the impact of financial stock market development and banking sector development on economic growth in the case of Turkey using Johansen cointegration and Granger causality tests for the period between 01:1988 and 12:2004. The results suggest that banking sector development has positive impact on economic growth and vice versa. Hence, the results lend support to both demand following and supply leading hypotheses for bank…
Impact of financial development on economic growth
The present article aims at investigating the effects of financial sector development on economic growth in the case of Pakistan from 1975 to 2008. A composite financial depth indicator is built using principal component analysis (PCA) and is used in the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) bounds testing approach to cointegration. The results suggest the presence of a positive and significant relationship between financial development and econo…
Long-run relationship between income inequality and financial development in China
This article aims at investigating the long-run relationship between financial development and income inequality in China using Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model from 1978 to 2006. The results suggest that there exists a strong relationship between the Gini coefficient and financial development, and that financial development leads to a reduction in the income inequality
Capital Reversals and Exchange Market Pressure
This article examines the relationship between capital reversals and exchange market pressure in Turkey within an autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) bounds testing and Granger causality framework using monthly data from 1991:12 to 2006:08. The results suggest that capital reversals are in a long-run equilibrium relationship with exchange market pressure. Granger causality tests indicate that there exists short-run and long-run causality runnin…
Stock Market and Investment in Turkey
The objective of this paper is to investigate the causal effect of business investments on stock returns in Turkey for the period following the liberalization of capital flows (1987:01-2006:03). According to results of the cointegration tests and error correction model (ECM) causality is found to run from stock returns to business investments and not vice versa
Impact of Trade Liberalization on the Environment in Developing Countries
This article aims at investigating the impact of trade openness on pollution and resource depletion in Nigeria. Results indicate that pollution is positively related to trade intensity and real GDP per square kilometer, while capital to labor ratio and GNP are negatively related to pollution. In addition, strong evidence suggests that trade intensity, real GDP per square kilometer and GNP are positively related to environmental degradation indica…
