The current study evaluates the validity of using Burke and Tully's technique to measure the rolelidentities of deviant individuals. Self-concepts of incarcerated delinquents were assessed in relation to three social role labels (Popular Teenager, Juvenile Delinquent, and Emotionally Disturbed Teenager) as defined by normal adolescents.
