  • Occupational risks of Covid-19

Open Access•Karla Romero Starke, René Mauer et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

We identified occupations with increased risks for hospitalization with COVID-19. For those having a doubled risk it can be assumed that COVID-19 diseases are predominantly occupationally related. By identifying high-risk occupations in non-healthcare professions, effective measures to prevent infections in the workplace can be developed, also in case of a future pandemic

  • Traffic-Related High Sleep Disturbance in the Life-Adult Cohort Study

Open Access•Melanie Schubert, Karla Romero Starke et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

Sleep is negatively affected by environmental noise. In the present study, we investigated self-reported high sleep disturbances (being "highly sleep disturbed"-HSD) from road traffic (primary and secondary road networks), rail (train and tram) and air traffic noise in the LIFE-Adult cohort study in Leipzig, Germany. For this, we used exposure data from 2012 and outcome data of Wave 2 (collected during 2018-2021). HSD was determined and defined a…

  • Psychosocial work stress and parent-child bonding during the Covid-19 pandemic

Open Access•Mirjam I Koerber, Judith Mack et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

The results of this study during the early COVID-19 pandemic in Germany highlight the importance of prevention as well as intervention measures in relation to psychosocial work stress that may play a debilitating role in the context of family relationships. In addition, the results suggest that both employers and employees should be made aware of the importance of psychosocial work stress, as it can have a negative impact on mental health, which …

  • The Covid-19 pandemic

Open Access•Linda Engelhardt, Judith Mack et al.•ARTICLE•Children and Youth Services Review•2023•References: 58

During the COVID-19 pandemic, working parents have been faced with a double burden by struggling to satisfy their children’s needs as well as dealing with altered working requirements at the same time. In the unprecedented context of a pandemic, the present study extends the existing literature to investigate the association between work-privacy-conflict (WPC) and parent-child-bonding in families with children aged 0-34 months old. Additionally, …

  • Health and Care Dependency of Older Adults in Dresden, Germany

Open Access•Karla Romero Starke, Janice Hegewald et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

As the population in Europe ages, an increased focus on the health of older adults is necessary. The purpose of the population-based LAB60+ study was to examine the current health and care situation of the population of older adults in Dresden, Germany, and to assess the effect of age, gender, and socioeconomic status (SES) on health outcomes. In the first half of 2021, 2399 out of 6004 randomly sampled residents of Dresden aged 60 years or older…

  • The Gutenberg health study

Open Access•Matthias Nuebling, Janice Hegewald et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

Both the COPSOQ and ERI instruments show good criterion validity and adequately predict contemporaneously measured self-reported measurements of health and (occupational) well-being. However, the COPSOQ provides a more detailed picture of working conditions and might be preferable for improvment strategies in workplaces. Additional prospective research with shorter follow-up times would be beneficial for estimating dose-response relationships

  • The isolated effect of age on the risk of Covid-19 severe outcomes
