Functional Abdominal Pain Disorders in Children May Be Associated with Food Intolerance/Malabsorption
Functional abdominal pain disorders (FAPDs) are among the most common types of chronic pain disorders in children. FAPD symptoms are characterized by chronic abdominal pain and changed bowel movements. The pathophysiology of FAPDs in children is unknown, but these conditions may have an imprecise clinical overlap to food intolerance/malabsorption. We report on 51 consecutive children (23/28 males/females; median age 15.3 years) with investigated …
Hypercarotenemia in Anorexia Nervosa Patients May Influence Weight Balance
Introduction: Anorexia nervosa (AN) can co-occur with hypercarotenemia, a clinical condition characterized by elevated β-carotene in plasma and skin tissue. Carotenoids have known anti-obesogenic effects in adipocyte biology. Thus, carotenoids may potentially play a retarding role in weight gain during the recovery of AN patients. This study evaluated the plasma carotenoid profile and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) in a cohort of AN patients a…
The Role of Vitamin D in atherosclerosis inflammation revisited. More bystander than player
Evaluation of new obesity-related individual metabolic and vascular risk profiles
2?1 (SD 1?1), P , 0?0001; Matsuda index (4?7 (SD 2?7) v. 6?7 (SD 3?9), P , 0?001) and had higher glucose levels (fasting glucose 85?4 (SD 6?6) mg/dl v. 82?4 (SD 5?8) mg/dl, P , 0?01; 2 h glucose 91?8 (SD 15?8) mg/dl v. 85?2 (SD 14?6) mg/dl, P , 0?05 and higher) than those of Group 2. Lifestyle intervention induced a comparable significant decrease in weight, waist circumference, fat mass, heart rate and ALT (and increase in fat-free mass) in the …
Poster Abstracts
average, this represents 1?6 l of water intake per day for females and 2 l of water intake per day for males. French national dietary survey (INCA 2) included more than 4000 people aged 3-79 years between 2006 and 2007. Volunteers declared all their food and fluid intake during a 7-d period
Fluid consumption data extract from a French national survey
Biological samples (blood and cheek-swabs) will be taken from children and parents for obesity and taste gene testing
