  • Co-designed and co-delivered place-based community interventions to reduce inequity in early initiation of antenatal care

Open Access•Angela Harden, Meg Wiggins et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2026•Cited by: 1•References: 24

BACKGROUND: Early initiation of antenatal care provides timely screening, advice and support. Inequities in early care initiation exist in high-income countries, but there is scant evidence on effective interventions. The community REACH (Research for Equitable Antenatal Care and Health) trial aimed to assess the effectiveness of co-produced place-based interventions to strengthen community support for early care initiation. METHODS: Matched-pair…

  • Community, belonging and acceptance; is this the antidote to shame and societal discrimination? An exploration of LGBTQ+ individuals’ attendance at pride and their mental health

    Open Access•Rowan Tinlin, R Tinlin-Dixon et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology and Sexuality•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 7

LGBTQ+ minorities are disproportionately exposed to stigma, discrimination and social prejudice compared with cisgender and heterosexual peers, which can result in experiences of shame and isolation for LGBTQ+ individuals. Pride marches began as a reaction to this systemic and institutional discrimination of gender and sexual diversity and provides hope and community. This exploratory study aimed to investigate what Pride events mean to LGBTQ+ in…

  • Plant-based recovery from restrictive eating disorder

Open Access•Rachael Hunter, Marina Platygeni et al.•ARTICLE•Appetite•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 47

OBJECTIVES: Plant-based/vegan diets are growing in popularity. There are growing numbers of individuals adopting plant-based diets and there are legitimate concerns from professionals that this can enable food restriction or mask disordered eating. The aim of this study was to examine the role a plant-based diet can play for those in recovery from restrictive eating disorders (anorexia and bulimia nervosa). METHODS: Interviews conducted with four…

  • Long‐term clinical and cost‐effectiveness of a therapist‐supported online remote behavioural intervention for tics in children and adolescents

Open Access•Chris Hollis, Charlotte L Hall et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Child Psychology and…•2023

BACKGROUND: Little is known about the long-term effectiveness of behavioural therapy for tics. We aimed to assess the long-term clinical and cost-effectiveness of online therapist-supported exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy for tics 12 and 18 months after treatment initiation. METHODS: ORBIT (online remote behavioural intervention for tics) was a two-arm (1:1 ratio), superiority, single-blind, multicentre randomised controlled trial …

  • Cost-effectiveness of peer-supported self-management for people discharged from a mental health crisis team

Open Access•Marie Le Novere, Sonia Johnson et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2023

There was a minimum 57% chance that the intervention was cost-effective compared to the control using 12-month costs and QALYs. The probability varied by 40% when methods were employed to account for the relationship between costs and QALYs, but which restricted the sample to those who provided both complete cost and utility data. Caution should therefore be applied when selecting methods for the evaluation of healthcare interventions that aim to…

  • Narratives from within ‘lockdown’

    Open Access•Rachael Hunter, Chloe Gibson•ARTICLE•Appetite•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 35

  • Health on the web

Open Access•Elizabeth Murray, Zarnie Khadjesari et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2013

This innovative design avoids recruitment bias by not mentioning alcohol in the invitation and avoids reactivity of assessment by not collecting baseline data on alcohol consumption
