Reconstructing schoolyards with greenery to increase schoolchildren’s physical activity and mitigate climate changes in urban areas
The benefits of physical activity are well-documented, and healthy habits established in childhood often continue into adulthood. Recent research has shown that schoolyards provide a valuable platform for children to be physically active, with greener spaces in particular enhancing both physical and mental well-being. The City of Stockholm has formally decided to reconstruct 20 schoolyards, incorporating more play areas and greenery. This study w…
Associations between physical activity, socioeconomic and sociodemographic factors, and risk of sarcopenia in older adults in Northeast Brazil
Our findings demonstrate the importance of promoting physical activity and reducing social inequalities to prevent sarcopenia in aging populations. Public health strategies should be tailored to account for both behavioral and social determinants of health, with particular attention to the intersection of sex, social support, and occupation. Further longitudinal research is needed to clarify how these factors interact over time in the development…
Associations of psychological factors with atherosclerosis and cardiovascular health in middle-age
While there were no strong and consistent associations between psychological factors and atherosclerosis, the consistent associations of psychological factors with cardiovascular health by Life's Essential 8 may have relevance for future CVD risk. However, further studies are needed to elucidate the long-term effects of psychological factors on atherosclerosis development and cardiovascular health
Life’s Essential 8 in relation to self-rated health and health-related quality of life in a large population-based sample
LE8 and LS7 had strong and inverse associations with SRH, mental-HRQoL, and physical-HRQoL, though LE8 had a somewhat higher capacity of discrimination than LS7. The novel LE8, a construct initially conceived to monitor cardiovascular health, also conveys SRH and HRQoL
Physical Activity through a Classroom-Based Intervention
Schools are an important arena to curb the decline in physical activity (PA) in youth. School-based interventions with accelerometer-measured PA are warranted. This study aimed to increase accelerometer-measured PA in adolescents following a 12-month school-based intervention. Two school-classes of 16-18-year-old Swedish students were allocated to intervention group and control group. Accelerometer-measured PA was gathered at baseline, 6- and 12-…
Association of changes in cardiorespiratory fitness with health-related quality of life in young adults with mobility disability
International Standard Randomized Controlled Trial Number (ISRCTN) registry ISRCTN22387524 ; Prospectively registered on February 4th, 2018
Meeting physical activity recommendations is associated with health-related quality of life in women before and after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery
Meeting the PA recommendations and overall engaging in more PA was associated with higher HRQoL, pre-, and post-RYGB surgery, highlighting the importance of PA both pre- and post-surgery
Cross-sectional associations between maternal self-efficacy and dietary intake and physical activity in four-year-old children of first-time Swedish mothers
Objectively measured physical activity patterns, sedentary time and parent-reported screen-time across the day in four-year-old Swedish children
Four-year old Swedish children display different activity patterns across the day on weekdays compared to weekend days, with preschool hours during weekdays being the most active segments and preschool hours during weekend days being the least active segments of the day
