  • Ancient DNA typing shows that a Bronze Age mummy is a composite of different skeletons

    Open Access•Jayd Hanna, Abigail S Bouwman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2012•Citada por: 5•Referências: 2

  • Mitochondrial DNA haplotypes of Devensian hyaenas from Creswell Crags, England

    Open Access•Danae Rebecca Dodge, Abigail S Bouwman et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2012•Citada por: 2•Referências: 17

Spotted hyaena (Crocuta crocuta) remains have been recovered from British Middle and Upper Pleistocene sites at intervals within the period 700-730 ka BP. Morphological studies have suggested that hyaenas of the Last Interglacial sensu stricto (Ipswichian: Marine Isotope Stage [MIS] 5e, 130-115 ka BP) and Last Glacial (Devensian: MIS 3, 61-24 ka BP) were two distinct populations, the Ipswichian hyaenas becoming extinct in Britain during MIS 5 and…

  • Deficiencies and challenges in the study of ancient tuberculosis DNA

    Open Access•Alicia K Wilbur, Abigail S Bouwman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2009•Citada por: 18•Referências: 2

  • Kinship in Aegean Prehistory? Ancient DNA in Human Bones from Mainland Greece and Crete

Open Access•Abigail S Bouwman, Abigail Bouwman et al.•ARTICLE•The Annual of the British School…•2009•Citada por: 1•Referências: 15

Attempts were made to detect ancient DNA (aDNA) in samples of 89 human skeletons from Neolithic and Bronze Age sites in Greece and Crete. Ancient DNA was absent in specimens from Nea Nicomedia, Lerna, Kato Zakro: Karaviádena, and Mycenae Grave Circle A. For each of three skeletons sampled from Antron Grave Circle B, polymerase chain reactions (PCRs) gave products for nuclear but not mitochondrial DNA, but the yield of DNA was low and inconsistent…

  • Kinship between burials from Grave Circle B at Mycenae revealed by ancient DNA typing

Open Access•Abigail S Bouwman, Abigail Bouwman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2008•Citada por: 19

  • Brief communication

    Open Access•Abigail S Bouwman, Abigail Bouwman et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2006•Citada por: 6•Referências: 9

We present a method to distinguish authentic ancient DNA from contaminating DNA in a human bone. This is achieved by taking account of the spatial distribution of the various sequence families within the bone and the extent of degradation of the template DNAs, as revealed by the error content of the sequences. To demonstrate the veracity of the method, we handled two ancient human tibiae in order to contaminate them with modern DNA, and then subj…
