Measuring Collaboration Among Grant Partners
Collaboration is a prerequisite for the sustainability of interagency programs, particularly those programs initially created with the support of time-limited grant-funding sources. From the perspective of evaluators, however, assessing collaboration among grant partners is often difficult. It is also challenging to present collaboration data to stakeholders in a way that is meaningful. In this article, the authors introduce the Levels of Collabo…
Who’s Teaching the Teachers? Evidence from the National Survey of Postsecondary Faculty and the Survey of Earned Doctorates
In light of a documented shortage of candidates for teacher education faculty positions, this study explores the academic labor market for teacher education faculty utilizing data from the National Survey on Postsecondary Faculty and the Survey of Earned Doctorates. The study sheds light on the factors that predict who becomes a faculty member in teacher education
The Relationship of Students' Attitudes about Effective Teaching to Students' Ratings of Effective Teaching
This study investigated the relationship between students' attitudes toward effective teaching, perceptions held by students of their teachers' attitudes toward effective teaching, and ratings by students of their teachers' effectiveness. Students in a sample of 20 classes in a school of education completed the Attitude Toward Effective Teaching Scale (ATET), a measure of the students' attitudes toward the factors that contribute to effective tea…
Parent Burnout
This study examined the validity of the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) for assessing parenting burnout. Two out of three dimensions were found to be consistent with the original factor structure
The Impact of Alternative Scoring Procedures for Multiple-Choice Items on Test Reliability, Validity, and Grading
This study compared the reliability and validity indexes of randomly parallel tests administered under inclusion, exclusion, and correction for guessing directions. It also compared the criterion-referenced grading decisions based on the different scoring methods. Inclusion and exclusion scores were not so highly correlated as theory would predict. There were no significant differences in the reliability and validity indices for the three scoring…
Consequences of teachers' attributions for student failure
A Comparison of the Item Difficulty and Item Discrimination of Multiple-Choice Items Using the "None of the Above" and One Correct Response Options
Twelve multiple-choice items in a college statistics examination were written in three formats: (a) one correct answer, (b) "none of the above" as a foil, and (c) "none of the above" as the correct answer. The format using "none of the above" as the correct answer was the most difficult of the three formats. No consistent differences in item discrimination indices were found among the three formats. The test composed of multiple-choice items with…

The Predictive Validity of the Kindergarten Teacher Rating Scale
This study assessed the predictive validity and classification accuracy of the Kindergarten Teacher Rating Scale (KTRS). The KTRS was a significant predictor of first grade reading achievement for three school districts. The KTRS also explained a significantly greater proportion of the variance in first grade reading scores than did the reading readiness tests used in the districts studied. Finally the percentages of correct classification for th…
