  • Multimodal intervention reduces seasonal carbon monoxide poisoning incidence and myocardial injury

Open Access•Yongai Ling, Xianwei Xiong et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2026

Acute carbon monoxide poisoning remains a major global health issue, especially in winter due to unsafe heating. Despite known seasonal trends, few strategies effectively reduce both incidence and severity. This retrospective cohort study analyzed data from patients with non-occupational carbon monoxide poisoning across four consecutive winter seasons, defined as December of one year through February of the following year (e.g., winter 2021: Dece…

  • Lesion classification and diabetic retinopathy grading by integrating softmax and pooling operators into vision transformer

Open Access•Chong Liu, Weiguang Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Introduction: Diabetic retinopathy grading plays a vital role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. In practice, this task mainly relies on manual inspection using human visual system. However, the human visual system-based screening process is labor-intensive, time-consuming, and error-prone. Therefore, plenty of automated screening technique have been developed to address this task. Methods: Among these techniques, the deep learning model…

  • Shape Matters

Open Access•Weiguang Wang, Yansong Liu et al.•ARTICLE•SAGE Open•2025

This study investigates how the physical attributes of vessels used for serving tea modulate the flavor perception of oolong and green tea, focusing on the interplay of taste, aroma, and tactile sensations influenced by container design. A controlled tasting experiment with 150 participants evaluated oolong and green tea served in differently shaped vessels, ranging from traditional Chinese teacups to contemporary designs. Participants assessed a…

  • Differences in Abnormal Water Metabolism between SD Rats and KM Mice Intoxicated by Microcystin-RR

Open Access•Wenqing Xiao, Qing Zhong et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

The effects of microcystin-RR (MC-RR) on water metabolism were studied on Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats and KunMing (KM) mice. In the single dose toxicity test, polydipsia, polyuria, hematuria and proteinuria were found in group of rats receiving a MC-RR dose of 574.7 μg/kg, and could be relieved by dexamethasone (DXM). Gradient damage was observed in kidney and liver in rats with gradient MC-RR doses of 574.7, 287.3, and 143.7 μg/kg. No significant w…

  • The collapse points of increasing trend of vegetation rain-use efficiency under droughts

Open Access•Zefeng Chen, Weiguang Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2020

The vegetation rain-use efficiency (RUE) represents the ability of an ecosystem to use rainfall and is an important descriptor of ecological functions of terrestrial system. Although studies have been conducted to investigate the impact of droughts on vegetation, we still lack critical understanding of how exactly RUE responds to droughts of different time scales and intensities. Here, we present evidence for a rapid response in RUE, and collapse…

  • For an Accurate and Comprehensive Understanding of the Cultural Theory of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics

    Weiguang Wang•ARTICLE•International Critical Thought•2018

This is an address to the Second World Cultural Forum held in Beijing on October 16, 2017, in which the author explained various elements that make up the foundation of the cultural theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics. These include the basic tenets of Marxism in relation to culture, the rich components of traditional Chinese culture and the outstanding achievements of Western cultural development. The specific reasons why we should …

  • On Cultural Progressiveness and Diversity

Weiguang Wang, Wang Weiguang•ARTICLE•International Critical Thought•2016

This is an address to the first World Cultural Forum on October 18, 2015, in which the following ideas are proposed with regard to the development of world culture: pursuing harmonious coexistence and promoting the mode of harmonious development; maintaining cultural diversity of complementarity and co-prosperity while resisting cultural hegemony; displaying the unique charm of Chinese culture on the basis of seeking common ground while respectin…

  • Growing Power, Security Paradox, and China’s Security Strategy

    Open Access•Weiguang Wang•ARTICLE•China Quarterly of International…•2015

China’s rapid rise has characterized the decades since the end of the Cold War. China’s growing comprehensive power has obviously given it more leverage and resources to pursue its goals and national interests. However, more power does not naturally translate into more security. To a great extent, China is facing a paradox between its security governance and increasingly broadened and complicated security agenda. Against this background, there ar…

  • A Revolution in Human Modes of Thinking and Methods of Cognition

Weiguang Wang, Wang Weiguang•ARTICLE•International Critical Thought•2013

The idea of “overall design headquarters” and “a comprehensive integrated laboratory of economic and social development” was first proposed by Professor Qian Xuesen, the famous Chinese physicist and the honored scientist, in the 1990s. Nowadays, the meta-system of society has become more and more systemic, holistic, complex, abrupt, variable, and random. Meanwhile, sensory tools such as telescopes and microscopes and cognitive tools which are ext…

  • Qidantongmai Protects Endothelial Cells Against Hypoxia-Induced Damage through Regulating the Serum Vegf-A Level

Open Access•Bei Wang, Weiguang Wang et al.•ARTICLE•African Journal of Traditional…•2012

Qidantongmai (QDTM) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) preparation that has long been used in folk medicine for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. However, the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. The present study was designed to determine the effects of QDTM on endothelial cells under hypoxic conditions both in vitro and in vivo. Primary human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were isolated, pretreated with QDTM medi…
