Climate change and spatial planning regulations
The article examines how municipal spatial plans regulate the protection and development of green spaces in selected southern European cities, focusing on regulatory content and links to climate challenges. Seven cities – Athens, Montpellier, Sassari, Setúbal, Bucharest, Bilbao, and Madrid – are compared through analysis of planning documents in terms of definitions, regulations, and integration of green spaces. Findings indicate that varying cli…
Integrating green infrastructures in spatial planning
Extensive urbanization is a major cause of landscape fragmentation, depletes natural habitats and affects climate change. An efficient counteraction is offered by the realization of green infrastructures (GIs). GIs contribute to ecological connectivity, increase ecosystem resilience, address climate change, and improve people’s wellbeing. The inclusion of GIs in spatial planning processes is important for mainstreaming environmental consideration…

Planning Land-Use Change for Biomass-Fuelled Energy-Production Plants
Land-use change in Sardinia is a delicate problem. On the one hand, the Regional Landscape Plan, the main landscape-planning tool adopted on the island, pays great attention to landscape protection, using strict constraints and directives for land management. On the other hand, the Regional Energy Plan aims at the diversification of energy sources and, in particular, of renewable energy sources (RES). Actions directed to the development of RES-ba…
