  • Automatic intonational contour clustering in Patwin

Open Access•Anna Björklund, Anna Björklund Anna Björklund•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the Linguistic…•2024

This study uses automated methods from Contour Clustering (Kaland 2021) to identify seven common intonational patterns in Patwin, an understudied Wintuan language of Northern California that survives via archival recordings. Only two phonetic or phonological analyses currently exist for Patwin (Lawyer 2015, 2021). This study finds that all seven contours suggested by Contour Clustering are attested in word-list elicitation, demonstrating a remark…

  • Applying material and energy flow analysis to assess urban metabolism in the context of the circular economy

Open Access•Asterios Papageorgiou, Anna Björklund et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Industrial Ecology•2024

With the circular economy (CE) gaining more traction worldwide, local authorities are engaging in efforts to develop circular strategies at the urban level. Developing and monitoring such strategies require detailed quantitative information on material and energy flows, which can be obtained through an urban metabolism (UM) analysis. This study demonstrates a bottom‐up approach to analyze UM at the sectoral level based on material and energy flow…

  • A framework to open the black box of the use phase in circular economy life cycle assessments

Open Access•Hampus André, Anna Björklund•ARTICLE•Journal of Industrial Ecology•2023

Life cycle assessments of circular economy measures (CE LCA) of consumer products have been criticized for oversimplifying important aspects of the use phase such as user behavior and rebound effects, limiting our understanding of the environmental performance of circular economy measures. This study tests the usefulness of a framework designed to facilitate accounting for such aspects, by applying the framework to a case study of reuse of shell …

  • Monitoring progress towards a circular economy in urban areas

Open Access•Maryna Henrysson, Asterios Papageorgiou et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Cities and Society•2022

As cities worldwide implement strategies to accelerate the transition toward a circular economy (CE), there is an increasing need for tools to monitor progress. However, a standardised metric for CE monitoring in urban areas is lacking. This study examines the potential of the EU Circular Economy Monitoring Framework (CEMF), an established indicator-based framework for measuring national- and EU-level circularity performance, as a monitoring tool…

  • Futura

Open Access•P James Joyce, Anna Björklund•ARTICLE•Journal of Industrial Ecology•2022

While it may be impossible to accurately predict what the world will look like in the future, we can be certain that it will be different from the world of today. By extension, we know that using today's data in life cycle assessment (LCA) studies claiming to represent future scenarios is problematic. For the future impact of products to be estimated in a consistent and meaningful manner in LCA, the background system, most commonly the ecoinvent …

  • Life cycle assessment as an analytical tool in strategic environmental assessment. Lessons learned from a case study on municipal energy planning in Sweden

    Open Access•Anna Björklund•ARTICLE•Environmental Impact Assessment…•2012•Cited by: 6•References: 11

  • Reducing Life Cycle Environmental Impacts of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Recycling

Open Access•Jan Johansson, Jan G Johansson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Industrial Ecology•2010

Collection and treatment of waste from electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) is regulated in the European Union by the WEEE Directive. Producers are responsible for take‐back and recycling of discarded equipment. Valuable materials are, however, at risk of “getting lost” in current processes. Thus, strategies to minimize losses are sought after. The material hygiene (MH) concept was introduced to address this issue. Structural features, whic…

  • Testing a SEA methodology for the energy sector

  • Planning Biodegradable Waste Management in Stockholm

Open Access•Anna Björklund, Charlotte Bjuggren et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Industrial Ecology•1999

The environmental impact of the management of biodegradable waste in Stockholm, based mainly on incineration and landfilling, was compared to systems with significant nutrient recycling; large‐scale composting, anaerobic digestion, and separate collection and utilization of urine. The systems' emissions, residual products, energy turnover, and resource consumption were evaluated from a life‐cycle perspective, using a computerized model, ORWARE (O…
