Justice without feeling? The case for Wildlife-Affective Urban Design
Urban design and planning increasingly engage biodiversity, habitat restoration, and green infrastructure, yet they still pay limited attention to how human–wildlife relations are felt, contested, and governed in everyday urban life. This paper develops Wildlife-Affective Urban Design (WAUD) as a conceptual framework for examining how urban form shapes multispecies encounter not only through ecological performance, but also through fear, curiosit…
Reforming trade governance for sustainable resource flows: Ecologically unequal exchange in Pan-Eurasia
Growing global resource demand is intensifying ecological inequality. Our integrated biophysical and governance analysis of 65 Pan-Eurasian nations shows that by 2050, under a business-as-usual pathway, 90 % of ecological overload (measured by the ecological carrying index, ECI) will occur in lower-income, agriculture-dependent countries (ECI > 1.2). Burdens are highly uneven: the poorest 50 % of countries bear 70 % of the overload, while the ric…
The comprehensive effects of future multi‐scenario land use change and climate change on water conservation in Northwest China
Water conservation is an important ecosystem service, which is crucial to the fragile ecological environment and serious soil erosion in Northwest China. However, water conservation has been affected by climate change and human disturbance, and its future spatial and temporal changes are still unclear. This study employed the Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Trade‐offs (InVEST) model to assess the water conservation capacity of Nort…
Cross‐administrative solutions for sustainable development: The case of the Watertown Hub
Water‐abundant regions face challenges due to urbanization and development, which pose threats to local water networks and the environment. Fragmented water network management and administrative boundaries hinder cross‐administrative collaboration and ecological conservation. This study presents a framework centered around the “Watertown Hub” concept, which focuses on integrated ecological and green development, fostering multifunctional, shared …
Hybridity and Multiscale Compatibility in Landscape Infrastructure for Mountain River Restoration: A Pathway Toward Environmental and Socio-Ecological Sustainability
River rehabilitation has traditionally focused on hard-engineering projects, which often fail to address environmental protection concerns and social-ecological services in a larger territorial context. In particular, mountain rivers pose unique challenges due to their diverse hydrological and morphological conditions, which are often overlooked by traditional restoration methods. Consequently, water quality deteriorates and social-ecological imb…
An econometric study of Oregon's log and lumber markets: Estimation of price elasticities using two approaches
Estimation of price elasticities for regional and state-level timber and lumber markets is essential for conducting market-level analyses of how new policies or different types of market shocks might impact, or have impacted, the market outcomes and the economic returns experienced by market participants, such as landowners and lumber mills. By using two standard estimation approaches, 2SLS and VECM, we estimate the price elasticities from a syst…

Home Garden With Eco-Healing Functions Benefiting Mental Health and Biodiversity During and After the Covid-19 Pandemic: A Scoping Review
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to tremendous impacts on human lives and society, which are not only because of negative effects on people's mental health due to isolation policies and physical distance for mitigating the spread of SARS-CoV-2, but also because the incident post-acute sequelae of the coronavirus will cause mental disorders. A green environment is a health resource, which cannot only benefit human physical and mental health, but also…
Coordination Study on Ecological and Economic Coupling of the Yellow River Basin
The coupling and coordination relationship between ecology and the economy in the Yellow River Basin is a hot topic in sustainable development research. Said research has important guiding significance for the ecological security and comprehensive development of the Yellow River Basin. Taking the Yellow River Basin as the object of our study, based on the data of the economy, energy consumption data, ecology data and water resources data, we cons…
Incidence of domestic subsidies vs. export taxes: An equilibrium displacement model of log and lumber markets in Oregon
Quantifying urban land expansion dynamics through improved land management institution model: Application in Ningxia-Inner Mongolia, China
Land management institution as a key confinement of urbanization in Baotou, ChinaApplication of proposed endogenous urbanization model
China has been experiencing rapid urbanization, with a large amount of rural land converted into urban land, leading to debate by researchers and governments. This study investigates the endogenous factors influencing urban expansion and quantifies their effects to promote intensive and sustainable urban land use in order to realize new-type urbanization, by employing GIS technology and an endogenous growth model. The simulation results explain t…
