Beyond CO2
Emissions trading systems (ETS) have become a central policy instrument for reducing downstream CO2 emissions, yet their ability to influence upstream fugitive emissions remains less well understood. Using sector-disaggregated CO2 and fugitive emission data for G20 economies from 1990 to 2023, this study examines the impacts of ETS adoption across six major emitting sectors within a staggered difference-in-differences framework. The results indic…
Revitalizing oil-gas resource-based cities
Revealing the sustainability transitions in China’s metal resource-based cities
Achieving sustainable development in mining cities is a pressing global challenge, particularly in resource-dependent economies such as China. By applying an improved Inclusive Wealth Index (IWI) and a geographical detector model, this paper examines the spatial and temporal evolution of sustainable development capacity across the life cycles of China’s metal resource-based cities (MRBCs). Our findings reveal a notable spatial heterogeneity among…
How Climate Policy Shapes Global Utility Markets
This paper employs a quantile‐based approach to examine how climate policy shocks—proxied by EU carbon allowance (EUA) prices—affect global utility stock markets from 2013 to 2024. Results show that spillover effects are strongest during normal market conditions, rather than at extremes. Utilities in the EU demonstrate greater resilience, while those in China and Brazil are more vulnerable to policy‐driven shocks. The analysis also reveals that t…
China’s Trade of Agricultural Products Drives Substantial Greenhouse Gas Emissions
China's trade of agricultural products has expanded rapidly over the past two decades, resulting in considerable shifts in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions worldwide. This study aims to explore the evolution of GHG emissions embodied in China's trade of agricultural products from 1995 to 2015. The GHG emissions embodied in China's exports of agricultural products experienced three stages of fluctuation, showing a significant upward trend (1995-2003…
