  • The impact of policies controlling government hospital development on the number and scale of government and private hospitals

Open Access•Weizhen Chen, Juan Mai•ARTICLE•Journal of Infrastructure Policy…•2025

Since 2013, the state has introduced a number of policies to strictly control the number and scale of public hospitals and to control the rapid expansion of public hospitals. After the introduction of this series of policies, the number of public hospitals in China did not continue to grow, but the number of beds in public hospitals continued to grow. This paper uses difference-in-difference (DID) method to analyze the number of public hospitals …

  • Environmental features related to the decadal variation of South China Sea tropical cyclogenesis in the context of summer monsoon

Open Access•Yuhao Cai, Song Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2025

This study investigates the changes in environmental conditions related to the decadal variation of genesis frequency of tropical cyclones (TCGF) over the South China Sea (SCS) during the summer. Corresponding to the decadal increase in TCGF, the seasonal mean anomalies of the genesis potential and environmental fields over the SCS are not favorable for tropical cyclogenesis, indicating their limited role in the decadal variation of the SCS TCGF.…

  • Pursuing social cohesion in cultural tourism destinations

Jiemei Luo, Izzy Yi Jian et al.•ARTICLE•Current Issues in Tourism•2024

The social impact of cultural tourism remains controversial even though tourism development seeks a socially and economically balanced outcome. This article explores the potential of liminality as a means of explaining how cultural tourism development affects social cohesion at the neighbourhood level, particularly through open spaces. A quantitative survey of 349 respondents from two national-level tourism districts in Shanghai, Yuyuan and Xinhu…

  • A novel index for depicting Enso transition with application in Enso-East Asian summer monsoon relationship

Open Access•Jiaxin Chen, Song Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2024

The impact of El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) transition on the East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) during post-ENSO summer has been investigated widely, but how to quantify ENSO transition precisely is still a challenge. This study proposes a new index to quantify ENSO transition based on the intensity of the spring persistence barrier. After validation through the key processes that influence ENSO transition, the index could be further validat…

  • Large-scale atmospheric features favoring the tropical cyclone activity affecting the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area of China

Open Access•Weizhen Chen, Song Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2022

This study analyzes the large-scale circulation associated with the tropical cyclones (TCs) affecting the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) in southern China during the peak TC season (July–September) from 1980 to 2019. The results show that the frequency of the TCs affecting the GBA is closely tied to a meridional Rossby wave train from Southeast Asia to Northeast Asia, manifested by the important roles of the variability of the m…

  • Cultural regeneration and neighborhood image from the aesthetic perspective

    Open Access•Jiemei Luo, Izzy Yi Jian et al.•ARTICLE•Habitat International•2022•Cited by: 3•References: 68

A systematic approach for understanding how the urban environment and regeneration influence neighborhood image is lacking, particularly involving aesthetic perspective. This study considers image reform under cultural regeneration and quantifies neighborhood image based on its aesthetic characteristics. Two Shanghai conservation areas (SCAs), also known as hip neighborhoods, were selected as study sites. Mixed methods, including a questionnaire …

  • Systematizing heterogeneous expert knowledge, scenarios and goals via a goal-reasoning artificial intelligence agent for democratic urban land use planning

Open Access•Weizhen Chen, Liang Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•Cities•2020•Cited by: 3•References: 50
