  • Magnet or disperser? The role of university in talent’s sequential migration in China

Jiarui Yang, Yexiao Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Asian Population Studies•2025•References: 18

  • Multidimensional Distance With Hometown Versus University

Open Access•Yexiao Zhang, Can Cui et al.•ARTICLE•Population Space and Place•2025•References: 23

Migration is inherently associated with risks, uncertainties and various costs, many of which arise from barriers imposed by distance. Based on a university graduate survey conducted in 2022, this study examines the influence of multidimensional distance on the destination choices of graduate migrants, which comprises of geographical distance, administrative distance, cultural distance, informational distance and industrial distance, taking into …

  • Understanding the Geography of Covid-19 Case Fatality Rates in China

Open Access•Hanchen Yu, Xin Lao et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

This study employs a spatial autoregressive probit-log linear (SAP-Log) hurdle model to investigate the influencing factors on the probability of death and case fatality rate (CFR) of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) at the city level in China. The results demonstrate that the probability of death from COVID-19 and the CFR level are 2 different processes with different determinants. The number of confirmed cases and the number of doctors are c…

  • Revisiting Hukou Transfer Intentions Among Floating Population in Chinese Cities

Open Access•Xin Lao, Zhihao Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•SAGE Open•2022

The hukou transfer intentions (HTI), as an essential indicator of migration behaviors, is of great significance to the urbanization development and the citizenization process of China’s floating migrants. Although extant studies have devoted extensively to the influence factors of HTI, their spatial differences and multi-level determinants are comparatively under-researched. Based on the China Migrants Dynamic Survey (CMDS) data in 2016, we emplo…

  • Health service disparity, push-pull effect, and elderly migration in ageing China

    Open Access•Hengyu Gu, Yangyang Jie et al.•ARTICLE•Habitat International•2022•Cited by: 5•References: 54

  • How does air pollution affect urban settlement of the floating population in China? New evidence from a push-pull migration analysis

Open Access•Zhihao Zhao, Xin Lao et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

Our results are consistent with existing studies. This study discovers that both external environment and internal factors influence migrants' settlement intentions. Specifically, the differences in population sizes, economic development levels, public services, infrastructure conditions, and environmental regulations between cities play a significant role in migration decisions. We also confirm heterogeneous sensitivities to air pollution of dif…
